I am new to the site. I have been exercising and watching my calories, carbs & fat since April 1st of this year. I started out at 196 lbs and as of May 11th I was down to 181. I had emergency surgery May 13th to remove my appendix. I came home from the hospital on May 14th. I did not eat at all on May 12th and very little on May 11th and May 13th. The SHOCKER is when I came home Saturday the scale said 194!!!!! How in the world is this possible & how do I get it off? My goal was to be down by june 4th for my daughter's Graduation and now I feel like I'm back at square one & all that hard work down the drain! Please help I am more discouraged than ever!

meds, being in bed, surgery- all these make you retain water and your body is really in survival mode- it will come off soon enough, but your first worry should be your health and then the number on the scale. just keep making smart choices food and exercise-wise and you will be fine!0

Hi VBK!! Welcome to MFP. You've come to the right place. Sorry to hear you feel discouraged, but you have taken the right steps by coming here to get support, motivation, and encouragement for times like these. Everyone has set backs. Don't let it define you.0

I'm sure your body is just in "shock" from the surgery. Don't worry, you'll see that scale drop back in no time! In the mean while, take it easy and heal!!:flowerforyou:0

Don't panic!!!!!
Its surgery, you take on air / fluid organs and tissues swell up.
If you are still eating healthily after a short period your body will get back to normal. Plus you know you haven't been binge eating so while the scales say you've put on weight YOU know that's not possible it just your body recovering from what is basically controlled trauma.
Enjoy your daughters graduation, it's gonna be great no matter what your weight.0 -
Thank You all for the advice & support! It was just such an unexpected drastic change and it got the best of me emotionally!!! I am trying to find more info on IV fluid & gas pumped into the abdomin during surgery and how long it takes for this type of "weight" to go away!!!! I know it's not calorie intake so it's not fat, but the number & swelling is insane! My stomach looks like I am 7-8 months pregnant!!!!!!! I have worked SO hard...and a set back like this literally overnight is very devastating & physicallt, mentally, & emotionally draining!!!!!! All advice and words of encouragement are welcome!!!!!0
