    OP - I checked your diary, why is a 34 year old male only eating 1200 calories a day???

    I am a 35 year old male - granted I lift heavy four days a week and mix in some cardio once a week - but my TDEE is 2750 and I am cutting right now on 2250….

    even at sedentary I would think you could eat 1700 a day and still lose...

    Probably because it's the default setting on MFP. There is so much wrong with that. It needs to be changed.

    No, that depends entirely on what what you enter in to MFP. However, the OP might be on the short side, and he might have put in to lose 2 pounds per week. That could get him a pretty low recommendation.

    There are so many people on here who are confused by that recommendation. They eat way less than they should, they don't eat back their calories - I don't know, seems to me there's a lot of harm done by that algorithm.

    I know that a lot of people have no idea what they're doing, but it's very basic math. If your NEAT is 1900 and you put in to lose 1 lb per week, you're going to get 1200 just because 1700 - 500 = 1200. Maybe MFP needs a bit more explanation on that page, but once you understand what the numbers represent, it's extremely simple math.

    Vegan protein drink mix (chocolate). Blend with kale and some avocado and 4 ice cubes.
    Chili and soups are great ideas. Here are a few of my favs:

    Sauteed Shredded Brussel sprouts w/onions, Dijon mustard and turkey kielbasa. (Great in crockpot too)

    Black bean w/avacado salad. Black beans, diced tomato, sliced green onions, cilantro, jalepenos, 1/2 tsp each cumin, garlic and onion powder. Add diced avavado and 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar. Yum! Great on salad or with chicken!

    How about turkey meatballs? For 1 20oz package of turkey sausage I use 5 cups spinach, 1 large carrot, 1 bell pepper, 1 med onion, (pulsed to hell in a food processor)an egg and 3/4 cups bread crumbs, tho you can sub in some quinoa. Add oregano, basil, garlic powder, red chile flakes, salt and pepper to taste. Mix together, bake at 350 for 30-35min. Makes 40 meatballs and 5 of them are 170cal. Serve with zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, in soup...

    The minimum for my meals is about 400 calories, usually more though. I use foodgawker.com as a source for inspiration. Look at food porn, get ideas, then create! Also, don't eat so little. That makes me sad :(

    Simple or not, people have issues with it, obviously.

    Here is an idea;

    Ingredients;
    -Salmon (with skin since salmon has most of its fatty acids inside its skin)
    -Garlic (chop it)
    -Onion/s (chop it)
    -Green peas
    -Bay leaf/s
    -Black Pepper (optional)

    How to prepare;
    Take a non sticky pan which deep enough to hold your ingredients. Fill it with water (it should reach tothe quaryer or your fish), not much though. Wait till it is boiled and put your garlic first then your bay leaf and then your fish. Fill the top with your green peas and cover the top of the pan. Cook till the water is gone. You will ha a natural appearing fat, that is coming from salmons skin and full of omega 3. Enjoy your dish!

    Mix and match stir fry.

    Prepared on a skewer with a variety of vegetables and grill. Do you have a George Foreman or access to a BBQ?

    Pasta using spaghetti squash. Use lean ground beef.

    Resolve to pick up an in-season vegetable the next time you are in the grocery and then google a recipe.

    Will you work on increasing your calorie intake daily? Make this grandma happy.

    Turkey Meatballs, works with pork and beef, etc too with higher fat - I like to have them with a pasta-type sauce (tinned tomatoes, mixed herbs, peppers, onion, etc) sometimes with, sometimes without rice. Just don't have the rice!

    I sometimes get on a kick to & eat the same foods for a lot of my dinners. That said I agree with some of the other posters that you could get away with eating a bit more & still losing weight.

    Pinterest could give you some interesting recipes.
