Breastfeeding Question

I am a new mom and trying to lose a little more weight. I noticed when I was filling out my meals they don't have a spot to log breastfeeding, I have learned that in a day moms burn 500 to 800 calories to make breast milk. I was wondering how other moms log it to get calories back. Cause if I am allowed 1500 calories and subtract my breast milk burning calories I only eat about 1000 calories. Hope other mom can help with logging. Thanks

I created a manual entry and log it as "exercise" so it shows up as extra cals to eat. This helps me make sure I eat the right amount of cals to keep up my supply. Hope this helps!

Congratulations! Best of luck and listen to your body as well - if you are feeling tired or your milk supply slows down get extra rest and drink extra water! Good luck and really enjoy your little one. :)

This is what I did also. But I only put 500 calories.
  • If you type breastfeeding as a meal there are entries that are -500 (some are incorrect and add instead so keep an eye out) I add it to my breakfast :-)

I add in breastfeeding in my food diary each day as a negative amount. Since I'm exclusively pumping, I can tell by output approximately how many calories I'm burning. One thing I would caution is just assuming it should be 500 calories each day. Especially as your baby gets older and eats more solids you may be burning less calories. If you find you aren't losing any weight this may be the case. There's an article on Kelly Mom at this link that may help! http://kellymom.com/nutrition/mothers-diet/mom-weightloss/ Good luck to you!
