What's the name of this type of exercise?

What is the name or category of workout where you do something (say sit ups) at high intensity for 30 seconds and then switch to another exercise (like jumping jacks) for 30 seconds and so on. There's a short break in there too but you just switch from 30 sec exercise to 30 second exercise quickly so the workout is only about 10 minutes. The point being to "trick" your body into burning calories faster. I thought it was HIIT and maybe HIIT is a type of this category of exercise but I thought there was another term. Also if know what kind of exercise I'm referring to or have a similar type of exercise can you tell me the name and how many calories are burned? Thanks.

Interval training? But I think that's what HIIT stands for.

Bodyweight circuit training? And I doubt you can trick your body to burn more calories, sorry. Just count it as a 10 minute circuit training, and the calories you see, this is only what you have burned, do not have unrealistic expectations. There are no magical 10 minute exercises that will burn crazy calorie amounts. If you intend to do HIIT, which you are not doing from the description, then 10 minutes sounds about right, but to see benefits from HIIT, you really need to know what you are doing and make it a part of a training routine. Just doing whatever at high intensity for 10 minutes here and there, it is not going to help much, other perhaps than give you a psychological boost.

It's tabata... I have seen it and trained people with it... It's 20 sec reps 10 sec rest normally alternating between 2 exercises for different muscle groups for a set # of sets... Like 4-8. As far a cal burn. That can't be answered... The exercise and intensity you out forth will decide that, but it's a great way to work. I start my people at 4 set of 2 alternating exercises so its a 4 minute round then have them rest for 1 to 2 minutes then on to a different round of other exercises. It's hard, but fun. Enjoy.

Yep, sounds like tabata. I do it in PT sessions. Yesterday was boxing and burpees. Great fun lol.

Thanks everyone. HIIT isn't listed in the exercises yet. But I'll try Tabata.
