OP said they are allowed to cook egg whites @ home though the family has stayed vegetarian. They have been saying the family is "strict vegetarian".

Vegetarian is a diet, vegan is usually a lifestyle, people who don't wear clothing or use products that contain animal ingredients.0 -

pescatarians - fish but no meat

YEAH!!! I know you are not questioning. We are having a conversation here. Actually I'm learning too. I had no idea Vegan was a "lifestyle. I thought it was diet.

That's the word - Ovo-lacto vegetarian People who eat eggs but are otherwise vegetarian.
I have a colleague who is ovo-lacto vegetarian and he told me that sometime back but I forgot what the word was.0 -

No, no. Not necessarily. Lots of cultures are strictly vegetarian and the OP's family may fall into that category. OP, you might want to re-phrase your question to get informed answers from the vegans in MFP. Also, google 'vegan protein sources' and you will find lots of good sites with information for you.
Thanks for understanding my point. Its all a cultural difference. Indians are mostly vegetarians.
1) Toor, Moong, Chana Daal. Daals are high in protein.
2) Tofu and or Paneer
3) Beans
4) Chick Peas or Chole
5) Chia Seeds (add them to your cereals) ... They are extremely popular amongst Indians.
That's a really good list. Thanks for suggestion. Only Chia seeds were missing. I have it at home. I will surely add them into my meals.
Paneer will give you bang for a buck - fat plus protein.
Yup Paneer is most commonly used food at home. You seem to have very good knowledge about Indian food.0 -

I love natural/plain yoghurt - if you pick one without added sugar, it's basically just fat + protein. And there's cheese... I love cheese! Hope this helps sweetie.

Yes you are right. We don't have yoghurt here in India. A different version similar to it is called Curd(dahi). I take most of my protein intake from that. It is full of protein and fat. I recently added that to my diet.

My favorite is Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla.
I'm on low carb and this totally works for me.
I get 50 grams of protein for 2 scoops.zero carbs.
It mixes very well and I like taste too.
