That would depend on the type of event honestly because professional attire really does vary.

A good standard for women is slacks or a skirt and a fitted blouse/buttong up shirt. But that truly depends on the state and the company, in phoenix sleaveless shirts are more accepted in the business area because of the heat

It depends on the event, if it's "business casual" and the weather is nice, I would wear a pencil skirt & a nice blouse. If it's cool outside or raining/ than I'd wear slacks and a cute sweater and a trench coat....but that's for business casual (and everyone has their own definition of business casual) LOL

i have to dress smartly for school so i just wear a high waisted skirt with tights then a vest or sometimes a shirt (nice floaty blouses look cute) with a cardi over the top :)

It depends on how professional. There's different degrees of it. What kind of function? That will determine it too. You could probably get a way with black heels, dark gray trousers (think JCPennys), and a tailored shirt (think Man's shirt) and pull your hair up if you have long hair.

depends on type of event. My old work had a yearly fundraiser event that was a big deal. I had to look professional, while still fitting into the black tie type of event. Id wear comfortable, but nice looking shoes since i knew id be walking and on my feet alot, a skirt and a black v neck shirt that was on the dressy side, make sure my hair looked good but still pulled back in a way to still look fancy but be out of my face, and wear a necklace that came down a little bit since I was wearing a v neck, and wearing matching earrings.

However, if the event was say an office party, or something not as formal; I might wear dress slacks (black is my color of choice; but grey is good too), and a blouse that i didnt have to tuck in (since im fat, no one needs to see my shirt tucked in and my huge stomach bulge lol); i guess they can it a fitted or taylored blouse. This could be any color, black, red, white; etc. Might wear some dressier shoes than normal (i wear alot of sneakers), maybe some black dress shoes or a small heal shoe (depends on event); with a necklace that fits directly around the base of my neck, and maybe some matching earrings, and since its not a real formal event, i could wear my hair in near any style.

not black tie. its more of a meet and greet with a short lecture... im stressing on whether to go cas business or more proffesional but not black tie. see i can do business casual on the causual side or black tie but not the in between...(i must lose weight already so i can go shopping) and i have no nice fitted shirts because i couldnt close the buttons until recently!!! so its pretty much sweaters. im thinking maybe to buy a fitted jacket/blazer kinda thing over a stretch silk tank

A nice high-waisted pencil skirt and blouse would be perfect. Target has amazing pencil skirts for like $20.
