About a year ago, for no reason i started to gain some weight. I started to exercise and count calories, but wasn't losing. Everyone kept tellign me "Muscle weigh more than fat". No.... a lb of muscle is teh same as a lb of fat. Its just that muscle takes up less room. Yea... I get that. But with reducing calories and exercising I should still see reduction in weight.
Fast foward to this last 4-5 weeks. I found this site and wow am I a carb addict. So I thought "hey there is my problem". I am at 1200 calories a day and usually come in under. I am staying at my recommended carb intake, low on my fat and up on my protien. In 4 weeks I've GAINED 3lbs. I exercise 2-3x per week at 45min per work out. Not to mention running around with 2 hyper children after work. So what's the deal. My BMI is normal, so I guess you could say this is the last 10-15 vanity pounds. But truth is...this is the heaviest I've ever been and I HATE it. Please help!

  • You're likely not netting enough calories. A lot of posts here suggest to lower the amount of pounds you want to lose in a week when you're not so heavy. Also, depending on the study or the different opinions of members on the board, you've probably hit starvation mode if you're consistently under 1200.

Up the calories and water it up.

Agree and also depending on what you are eating to get to that 1,200 mark is the question. I would suggest setting it to lose a pound a week unless you've already done so. Other suggestions are exercise 4-5 times a week and mix it up. Do two different things per week and then switch it up the following week, etc.

I was thinking that. The issue is....trying to find low carb foods. If I make my calories (and/or go over) I usually bust my carb too. I've never had issue like this. Oh so frustrating. Thanks for the advice. I'll look into *where* my calories are coming frm and try to up them as well.

Have you done your measurements? You might be building muscle and losing inches - it's happened to me - my inches were decreasing though the scale didn't want to cooperate.

If your eating and exercise habits have not changed and you suddenly start putting on weight when you have never put on weight before, and if you are putting ON weight when eating 1200 calories a day (if you're not guessing food amounts and getting it wrong) you may have an underactive thyroid.

Get yourself to the doc and get it checked out.
