Possible to lose too fast?

hopefully this question isn't too silly - but I want to do this the right way and I've already learned sooo much from browsing these forums.
I started MFP a week and five days ago. I've lost 6.something already and I realize that it could be bc I'm shedding a lot of water right now. In MFP I began with wanting to lose 1.5 per week, which put me at 1450 calories per day. Sooo far, I've been sticking right at or under that daily. Today and yesterday were the first days I even felt remotely hungry. A surprising outcome from counting calories has been that I was surprised to find that I wasn't feeling starved - I was feeling satisfied. I haven't even started any exercise at all. I do plan to.
I guess I'm asking if it is usual to lose this much so quickly? Because of water? And if so, when will it likely stall or slow down?
Thanks for all the great advice and help so far in this journey! I have about 70 total lbs I want to shed.

I'd concur.
Extremely common to lose a bunch right off the bat (water weight...also why you see so many weight loss fad commercials that proclaim "I lost X lbs in 2 weeks!!!")
If you lose at that rate for several weeks in a row, I'd be concerned that you're losing a significant amount of lean mass instead of fat, or that you're severely undereating and will crash and burn in the near future.0 -
^^ ditto to that. I lost really fast right at first too and (sigh) it slowed down, but is still what mfp has said it would be, so im doing fine lol
but seeing those fast drops sure was nice for awhile!0 -
You are spot on. Most of the time we lose quickly at first because of the water, but then it slows down.
It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Carry on!0 -
Ok good - I was worried that I was doing something harmful to my body. I weighed in on Sunday and apparently "lost" five more pounds (water weight??) through today. That's like a pound a day. It is amazing to see the scale move like this, but I wanted to know if it was ok and when it would likely start to slow down. Thanks again, everyone!0

If you don't mind my asking, how much do you weigh? Or, alternatively (so I don't commit the cardinal sin of asking a woman her weight ) how much do you want to lose?
The only reason I ask is that if you're only trying to lose 12 vanity pounds, then yeah I might be a bit concerned about that rate of loss. If you have 60+ lbs to lose, then it's less concerning.0 -
Oh yeah, I have 70 pounds to lose in order to be where I think I'm supposed to be for my height. Do you have a certain place you look in order to see what your optimal weight should be? I found a site but I'm not sure it's some authentic site. I am not sure that I'll get to my optimum weight, but losing at least 50 is my real goal.0
