Losing weight in the beginning

Has anyone lost more weight than they thought they would? Especially in the beginning? A while ago on one of my attempts to lose weight I was running 4 times a week and drinking more water, and I lost 18 pounds in a month. Is this normal? Has anyone lost way more weight than they thought they would in the beginning?

I lost almost 4 pounds the first week. So yeah. I asked this and I got the answer that its a lot of water weight.

Never lost 18 in a week, but it definitely comes off faster when someone first begins weight loss.

It comes off quicker in the beginning as you're dropping water weight. The more you have to lose, the more that initial loss seems to be.

I lost 9 pounds the first month, then 7, then 5.

So yeah, losing more early in the process seems to be normal.
