google is your friend :) It has great conversion tools to help with things like double-checking grams/ounces/cups/quarts etc.

A Cup is a measurement of an amount, not weight. What do you want to put in the cup ? For example, peanuts in a cup will weigh different to yogurt in a cup.

cups are a measurement of volume not of weight. So the number of grams depends on the volumetric mass density of the food you measure as a cup

No. Try to ignore things in the data base like chili as it can have many types of ingredients depending on who made it. If you have to, make a wild guestimate and move on to something else.

Cups are a measure of volume and have nothing to do with grams although in the U.S. we ofter causally refer to a cup as 8 ounces.

    1 Cup [US] = 236.588237 Milliliters
    1 Cup [Metric] = 250 Milliliters

The product label should have the weight as well as the volume. Serving size: 1 cup (100 grams) or something like that.

1 cup of raw spinach weighs wayyyy less than 1 cup of chili. 1 cup is just a volume measure and should only be used to measure liquids.

One cup of muscle weighs more than one cup of fat, you know.

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

As others have said, it depends. If you only know the volume you are probably better off using that for now but consider getting a scale. If your problem is you know the grams but your entry has cups, you can probably find a better entry that has the grams option.
