Hi. I'm a two time terminal cancer survivor. While I was sick for years I ate what I wanted because I thought my life was about to end. It didn't and now I'm overweight and miserable. I need some coping skills and tips if anyone wouldn't mind. I'm lost and I need to find my healthy. I didn't survive cancer ti let a cheese burger take me out... Lol... Thanks.

Wow, congrats on surviving, that's truly amazing. To start out with working out begin easy doing low impact work outs like yoga, this will help you develop balance, and build muscle. Once you're more comfortable with that you can begin cardio, I would personally suggest low impact HIIT workouts, you can find examples of that online, and then combine that with strength training. A mindset I have when working out is that it isn't something I have to do, it's something I get to do. There's people in this world who would love to be able to do the things that I take for granted so I want to be able to appreciate what my body is capable of doing. Penny in part because of cancer concerns I wound up eating Low Carb High Fat as a preventive measure. You can google that if you are interested or read some of the MFP low carb boards. I think it is awesome how you do not give up. Now I do some supplements that some research indicates helps our natural cancer defense system kill off our cancer cells before they run away and form tumors.0

You can ease into it by logging everything in the diary for one week. At the end of the week, assess patterns and evaluate ways to to adjust so that you can eat fewer calories.
I found it important to get rid of unhelpful foods in the fridge and to clear off the counter so that I would have room for cooking foods with appliances I use now.
Buy a food scale -- one that can do grams and ounces. I bought one I love on Amazon.0 -

OP, pay him no mind. You are an awesome human being for kicking the tail end of a horrible disease TWICE. A vast majority of people on MFP will advocate to just stick to a caloric deficit and move. You don't have to give up things you love, just moderate how much of it you're eating to fit your goals.

I think just start with baby steps- log what you're currently eating so that you can get an idea of where you can begin making changes, and start any gentle exercise which you feel comfortable with (yoga, walking, etc.).
Do some reading and research (I find these boards are usually a great source of information), plan meals and exercise ahead so you have a clear idea of what you're doing, and just build up as and when you feel comfortable. Good luck with everything!0 -

Congrats on beating cancer twice! My mum has also done this (leukaemia) so I've seen firsthand how hard it can be.
My mum has to be careful because her immune system is still quite low, but obviously her type of cancer may be different from yours as it affected her blood cells. She goes to the gym and goes for walks. Her local gym actually has a special programme for cancer sufferers, but this is in England.
Did the treatment affect your appetite at all?
I'd just start by figuring out what you want to lose and then get MFP to work out the calories. Do some meal planning, and remember you don't have to give up all the things you like, just have smaller portions maybe. Also get started on some exercise. If you want to join a gym, get someone to do a workout program for you, show you how to use all the machines and so on.0
