Apartment Exercise. Suggestions?

Reminds me of a neighbour I had in an apartment with thin walls. Every morning like clockwork, a steady thumping against the wall. You know where my mind went, but I couldn't imagine very many couples could go at it so steady or for so long.

It was exercise equipment, duh!0 -
Im upstairs, and I got a stationary bike too. It is so nice for when it's too cold to go outside. I use it during my preschooler's nap time, or after he is in bed while I watch TV. I have several fitness DVDs - Leslie Sansone Walk at Home, 30 day Shred, and a Yoga one. When I do the 30 day Shred, I just go for it with the jumping jacks because it's not really that long. I just make sure I do it at a respectful time of day - not at 4am or 11pm. So far no one has called the police complaining of a herd of rhinos in the apartment above them. I also put my little guy in his stroller and walk when it's nice out. Totally doable.0

Great thread; I also have a rebounder/mini trampoline with bungy strap connectors (rather than squeaky springs) for running, and the cardio segments of my fitness DVDs like 30 Day Shred (jumping jacks, jump rope, etc.). I also have a stationary bike and do body weight exercises for strength. My weighted hula hoop is great combined core/cardio work. When the weather is fine, I throw in outdoor exercise.0

I don't have any suggestions other than walking outside. I just wanted to thank you, as someone who lives on the bottom floor, for caring enough not to want to disturb yours.
Yes i try to be considerate considering i have a two year old who cant sit still any way lol. I try to keep her at the playground as much as possible0 -

If you youtube "low impact" workout videos, you'll find good stuff for apartments without a lot of jumping. Also consider a YMCA if they have them in your area. They offer childcare and they will work with you to find an affordable rate if it's too expensive for you.0

I do yoga, pilates, light weights, and low (low) impact cardio (walking DVDs and the like). Plus some stuff I learned from my PT.
Then I also have a bike and go hiking/walking when the weather is good.0 -
I like barre workouts. Barre3 has online videos.0

Similar challenges as you- people underneath me and kids. I will go to the YMCA normally, but otherwise- fitness videos at home with options for lower impact, stroller walks (lots of hills around me so this is a major workout!) and when I take the kids to the playground- I do a playground workout! Chase kids around, and then body weight exercises like pushups, chin ups, lunges, squats etc. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2012/04/12/playground-workout/0

Lots of good ideas already. I don't think anyone has mentioned talking to the folks downstairs, though. Do you know them? I would ask if there's a good time to do some of the more vigorous, jumping-style workouts. If you're home while they're at work, you could do your workout without bothering them.
Besides, it's nice to know your neighbors. One year when I was living in an apartment in Chicago, my downstairs neighbor and I would occasionally chat on the back porch. A few months after we met, he offered me a haunch of venison that he had gotten on a hunting trip to Tennessee. I was a student at the time so I was really grateful, and had venison stew for a couple weeks.0 -

Great idea. When we first moved in we went and introduced ourselves and let them know that we had an active toddler. And if at anytime were to loud to let us know. So maybe i will go talk to her0 -
I like the Leslie Sansone videos. My kids did it with me today.0

Blogilates on YouTube! I live on the top floor of my dorm and it's quiet and still gets me an awesome workout! They even have calendars that you can follow! Try the beginner calendar and see how you like it.0

Skip rope! I know it can be loud-ish, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable if you don’t do it very early in the morning or very late at night. It’s one of my favourite forms of indoor exercise.
I also like power yoga for a slightly less intense workout, or tae bo to break a sweat. Check out Billy Blanks for tae bo and Bryan Kest for power yoga, both available on youtube.0 -
I recommend the Leslie Sansone walking DVDs. Also, I use one of the inflatable exercise balls. With it I can do crunches, pushups, squats, leg exercises and a lot more. You can find lots of instructios online for exercises to do with the ball.0

Another rec for the Leslie Sansone walking. There are a ton on youtube if you don't have the DVDs. My toddler loves to do it with me also! I also enjoy kettlebell.0
