Pregnancy and working out

Hi,

So Ive been working out since Jan this year and I lost close to 22lbs. I currently weigh 183lbs. I have 40lbs more to lose. We are planning a pregnancy soon. I know this will create a gap in my weight loss journey as I cannot just eat 1200cal per day, will feel hungry and workout an hour everyday. I wanted to amp things up starting this month by following P90X3. But the pregnancy cannot be postponed either. So what are your thoughts? Do you think I can still do P90X3 in my first 3 months of pregnancy? Is it safe? I have no idea what the workout is like except I know its tough and probably strenuous? I would ask my doctor but she has no clue on P90X3 otherwise she thinks I am in good shape to exercise. Anyone out there who have been in a similar situation? Did you take a complete break or did you still workout lightly like cardio or light strength, is P90X3 not recommended during pregnancy? Pour in your thoughts please.
I definitely want a healthy pregnancy but I also want to lose some more weight and I cant postpone my pregnancy.

Thanks!!

You cannot predict what you will or will not be able to do during pregnancy, sorry. My first pregnancy, I was on partial bed rest since the first few weeks. And not allowed to do anything more than walk at a comfortable pace until the end. My second pregnancy, things were better at the beginning but ended in complete bedrest with only bathroom breaks allowed. For different reasons that the first time. Third baby, I had all day sickness the first 6 months or so, the first trimester so bad I had to take time off work. The only exercise I could do was go to the bathroom, vomit, and then spend the next hour concentrating on how to keep water down. Others have pregancies that allow them to follow their training programs as usual. You cannot tell.
I was by the way in great shape before and in between pregnancies, and with no reason to expect the complications, they just happened.
However, there is no reason to gain a lot of weight during pregnancy, and dependign on how much you need to lose, even slowly losing (not accounting for the baby's weight of course) might be recommended. So, while it will nto be 1200 calories, it might not really need to be much more. Talk to your dr when you get pregnant, and ask for a reference to a dietician. For example, dieticians working with gestational diabetes pregnant women should be able to give you guidelines on how to keep weight in healthy limits during pregnancy.

P90x would be perfectly safe to do while pregnant, if you are already following the program when you get pregnant. You should not start any new workout programs while pregnant though... just stick to what you've already been doing.

For instance, I did crossfit through most of my pregnancy because I had been doing it for almost a year prior to getting pregnant and knew my limits. That said, its also extremely important to listen to your body. Like the poster above said, it really depends on how you feel while pregnant.

I will mention to do your own separate research and talk to your doctor. There is a ton of outdated information regarding pregnancy and exercise floating around.

^^^ this is what I've read everywhere and from what I've seen from all my friends.

Don't start something *new* on your pregnancy- just keep doing what you'v ebeen doing.

On of my troupe mates has danced all the way up to her due date.. as in- we were afraid for one of our performances she wasn't going to make it because we weren't sure she was giving birth or not.

You won't know till you're in it- but establish some sort of training regime ahead of time so it's not a new shock.
