@skippygirlsmom - Disney definitely knows how to do medals!
@ddmom0811 - I know right. All those years I could have saved so much on doctors bills for stress related 'issues' when all I need was a few runs!
Date.......Miles......Total
04/01.....4.07.......4.07 - +2 mile walk
04/02.....5.20.......9.27 - + Strength Training
04/03.....6.48.....15.75

I forgot to include agility training yesterday - it went 90 minutes instead of our usual 60 and left me exhausted. Even the pup was tired which is a good thing.0 -

4/3 - 5 miles
4/4 - 5 miles
4/6 - 4 miles
4/8 - 3 miles

Thanks. It was only a half and I also thought that I could only dream to go that fast. But you be surprised what consistent and dedicated training does in a very short period of time. Challenges and the comarade of people in this forum make it easier to stay motivated day after day.

April 1 - rest
April 2- 6.01 miles
April 3- 5.15 miles
April 4 - 34 mile bike ride
April 5 - 20 mile bike ride - hilly ride.
April 6 - 6.01 miles

April 8 - 4.89 miles -- had to call husband to pick me up a couple miles away because I HAD to go to the bathroom. I scared him to death because I kept calling but he couldn't hear me because I had in my earbuds that only go on one side. So I called him 3 times until I finally realized he couldn't hear me. Once I got home and was 5 pounds lighter I was afraid I'd run out of time so had to just call it a day.

Ugh. Good days and bad.. A runs a run and I'll take it..
Anyone with lumbar back problems have input for me? I strongly suspect I have neurogenic claudication. I suppose I'll never be able to add significant miles without surgery. Kinda sucks. I'm still in denial that I have any issues. I see my doc in a week.
@Elise4270 -- Hi Elise.. I just noticed your message here.
It's somewhat hard to recommend a good running shoe without being fitted and know what type of shoe you really need (motion control, stability, etc.), if you over/under pronate, and so on. So, I will tell you what works for me (you already know my issues).
I have grown to love my Hokas unless I am doing speedwork. There have also been rave reviews on the Altras, but I have not tried them.. Yet. Each model is a little different (more cushioning/less responsive, more firm/more responsive), so you would need to test drive a few different models on a treadmill to see if they're right for you. The only model that I have not really loved so far has been the Huaka (personal preference). Who knows? The Hoka may not be right for you at all.
Regardless of shoe cushioning, I would highly recommend shortening your stride, try to increase your cadence slightly, and lift/lower your foot as little as possible on each footfall (road running only). Try to think as if you are running on eggshells to avoid "stomping". This will greatly reduce impact on all of your joints -- it works for me provided that my back or arthritis is not flared up.

4/1 - Nice 3.1 miles on indoor track
4/2 - Brutal 4.75 miles of "hilly" treadmill
4/4 - 10 miles, nice mix of hills
4/6 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/8 - 4 miles on indoor track (33:16...pretty speedy for me)
If I keep getting unplanned "bagel" days, I'm gonna miss my goal! Getting excited for the Hy-Vee Road Races at the Drake Relays Half in a couple weeks! (that's a mouthful) Will only be my second half, but really looking forward to it. Then another a month later at Dam to Dam.
Way to go get it all! Have a fantastic day!0 -

Thanks Shana! My daughter told me that she "wanted to race with daddy", so I am teaching her to run. Slow interval running with her is like earning a new PR everyday!
I love this! My oldest girl (5 years old) likes to run with me sometimes. We'll go for .5-1 mile with walking breaks. She only has one speed though - sprinting! I keep telling her that she can go further if she slows down a bit. She claims that isn't as much fun.
@briebee7 -- I know the feeling! My daughter is a VERY good sprinter (she plays soccer), but trying to slow her down is a job in itself! She also only knows two speeds -- full bore and stopped
I still have her on 200 meter run/walk intervals. I told her that as soon as I think she's ready, I will race a one-mile fun run with her. I can't wait!0 -

This thread rocks. Everyone is so impressive! I have major DOMS from a legs strength session on Monday, so cut my planned run/walk in half. I see foam rolling in my very near future.
