Butcher Shop

I get all my meat from a local butcher. It's fresh and it's the best quality for less than what Wal-Mart usually sells for.
My issue is with finding out the nutritional information for the meats I'm buying. Nothing in the food database seems to fit, but only because I don't know. I refuse to start buying at Wal-Mart or Krogers or wherever just for the sake of ease in logging.
The two things I buy the most are ground chuck (usually in two pound bags) and bacon. The chuck is extremely lean, but I have no idea the exact %/% of it.
Any suggestions?

Walmart and the like would just be using the USDA measurements. Use the non * entries in the database for the applicable cut of meat. There's generally entries for lean only, or lean and fat for most cuts.0

That's part of the problem. I'm not finding anything that doesn't have a *. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I type in "Ground Chuck", cause that's what it is, and all that comes up is *entries. Is there somewhere else on the site I can look for just non *entries or something?0

Unfortunately not. Can you ask your butcher what the rough fat percentage is? Because it will be under ground beef. Alternatively, look up "chuck, lean". Just because it's ground the info oughtn't change.0

I'll try that (both of those options). I usually try not to bother him and his wife because they tend to be very busy most of the time. >.< Thanks.0

Just looked, there's a variety of non * entries for lean chuck, with a bunch of options. None ground, but if you can pick the right one (maybe ask the butcher for more details) you should be able to log it with a fair bit of precision.0

Ask the butcher what % fat and just log as close as possible0

I have this problem too at my local butchers it's really cheap because it's a wholesale (they sell in bulk) place, i cant scan it so i dont buy it, i just go the supermarket and buy lean steak mince that i can actually see the macros of, i'd feel *kitten* if i just guessed the cals0

Your could try seeing if this site has any info you can add to the data base. http://nutritiondata.self.com/0

I also prefer to buy from my butcher... no added preservatives and solutions. Makes it hard to track accurately.0
