I have been told many times that I need to eat more calories in order to loose weight but I am very hesitant to go over 1,200. I know that it is true and makes sense so I'm looking for some support and suggestions of what to eat. I dont want to waste calories so i was thinking of adding things like almond butter and avocado to my diet to get those healthy fats and calories up there.
Does anyone else struggle to eat enough, i know its a mental thing for me i feel like if i'm eating more than 1200 i wont loose weight.
Thanks everyone!

This is a generic list and it's definitely not comprehensive, but anything here can be included in a balanced diet (as long as there are no allergies, medical conditions, obviously):
avocado
cheese
full fat dairy
Greek yogurt
ice cream
peanut butter (or other nut butters)
dark chocolate
less lean cuts of meat (including beef, pork, sausage, etc.)
seeds (chia, flax, sunflower, etc.)
nuts
olive oil
coconut oil
butter
beans and lentils
protein shakes, bars, and smoothies
hummus
beef jerky
cornbread
tuna
full calorie condiments
full calorie sauces & dressings
sour cream
guacamole
whole grain pasta
rice
bacon
whole eggs
quinoa
fruit and fruit juices
pretzels
bananas
scones
muffins (bran, blueberry, banana nut, etc.)
potatoes (sweet, red, gold, purple, white, etc.)

Everything is relative. At the end of the day, the bigger deficit, the bigger the loss.
So go ahead and eat the 1300 calories and try to burn 600 calories. ( thats a 30min work out in the morning and 30 min work out at night.) see what happens at the end of the month.0 -

How much are you trying to lose? I was doing under 1200 calories. As I lost more weight, the calories got lower. It was very difficult to eat so little, 800 calories. So if you have a lot to lose, I wouldn't go so low to start with.0

You can calculate your BMR here http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
BMR is how many calories your body would use if you stayed in bed 24hours. You would need to eat that amount of calories at least, in order to fuel your body's organs and tissues.
Then if you are an active person and do more than stay in bed all day, you would eat a little more to supply energy for daily activity. This is where the deficit happens....you can eat a little bit less than required for your daily activity so that your body dips into your fat reserves. Also a small amount of muscle loss occurs, so you also should exercise to help reduce muscle loss (since muscle is your METABOLISM).
If you add in exercise, you will need to fuel that exercise with food as well.
Use MFP goal setting to find these numbers automatically. It's an estimate, so you just have to try it out for a few weeks and see if you lose weight. Adjust if you don't by exercising a little bit more and/or eating a little bit less.
Weighing your food and tracking with a fitbit or similar is very helpful for accurate calorie intake/output.0 -
How long have you been eating at 1200? Have you lost any weight? If not, maybe you need to rethink your mindset regarding 1200.0

DO not go under 1200, that is the lowest a female can go. Try fat blasting foods, and food that speed up your metabolism. Green tea, peanut butter, nuts, leans meats etc. have you tried switching up your working routine. Your body can get use to a workout, try amping it up or trying new things, that'll keep your body on its toes.0
