Night shift healthy eating

I saw a post on how to fill out the eating log for night shift workers but I would love ideas on how to eat healthy working nights...some days I am awake for a long stretch, and the meal times are turned around, also a lot of times people order pizza or have other junk food around (lots of desserts too).

I work overnights also. I usually eat two meals while at work, and I take them in with me. I start with egg whites, chicken, and a banana and then a tuna sandwich and green beans. I usually take a snack or two with me, but usually don't eat them. As for logging, I usually eat my first meal @ 10 pm so I just log it on the next day. Just easier that way for me and it all balances out for the week.0

Bring your own food. I highly recommend bringing really yummy healthy stuff so you won't feel like you're missing out on whatever your colleagues are eating.

I used to love the night shift for eating healthy. Although I worked alone. Since noting was open, I had no choice but to bring my food and it would be easier for me to stick with healthy choices. I suggest making food a few days in advance and then bringing them in. Making in advance makes it easier, but you could always make it before heading to work. Either way, the key would be to bring your food.0

So my advice is pack all of your meals ahead of time - I actually do a bunch of small meals during my night shifts because it helps me from mindlessly eating junk, and don't bring cash with you! If you don't have cash you can't order unhealthy food, you can't use the vending machine, and basically you have to eat the snacks you brought with you. It helps a lot. I make big batches of hummus, boiled eggs, yogurt with fruit and eat them on my night shift (along with other leftovers)0

I bring veggie and fruit trays to work with me. If I keep my co-workers fed then they arent tempted to order pizza so then I dont cave. Many of them have switched over now to eating healthy now so we take turns beinging healthy snacks.0

I work 7-7's. I generally eat dinner before work and pack my snacks to eat at work, then have breakfast when I get home. Usually I bring extra snacks, like 500-600 cals worth total, and if i eat more than I had initially planned I'll adjust my breakfast after.
But I feel you on the junk food thing..everyone I work w routinely orders in! I find its easier to pick at snacks then sit for a full meal anyway. So I usually bring apple, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, salad, veg and hummus, maybe granola bar etc to keep full.0 -

I used to work nights as a nurse and I got wayyyyyy off course because they only thing they ever really had in the cafeteria was fried stuff like chicken tenders and jalapeno poppers. I ate that literally every night. Finally I got to the point where none of my scrubs were fitting right and I did weight watchers/calorie counting. Not that I'm a proponent of frozen dinners, but the weight watchers ones and the lean cuisines aren't terrible and they're easy to bring and just heat up in a pinch. Or you can prep your food at home before work.0 -
I second the idea to not bring money with you to work. I always locked my wallet in the glovebox of my car and brought my lunch in. The parking garage is super far away and in a fairly unsafe neighborhood. There are a lot of places to order from near our hospital, since it's close to a large university, but it was never worth it to go ALL the way to my car at 2 am. If Someone offered to cover my bill, I always declined, saying I was bad at paying people back (I am).
That way, my coworkers didn't think it was weird that I was choosing to eat broccoli and kombucha or whatever other weird stuff was in my lunch bag instead.0 -
Bring your own, pre weighed and pre logged food.0
