So I am currently going once a week to a salon on a trial basis..... It is quite an active job as I am sweeping up hair, constantly walking places, upstairs downstairs. I don't know whether to log it, and also I'm not allowed my phone with my obviously so yeah..... I am there for four hours tomorrow.

If it's your job, normally you'd build it into your normal daily activity level (i.e. if you're currently set to sedentary, switch to lightly active, etc.)

However, since it's only one day a week on a trial basis, you might want to either log it as walking exercise -- or, if you have a Fitbit or other fitness tracker, you could use that to log the activity since it's mainly step based.

The only walking I log is when I am walking around town- going to shops. And zumba and H.I.I.T. I didn't really think I'd have to log this as I probably would not burn that much. I thought I would ask anyway, just to be cautious. I eat 1440 calories each day.

I mean afterwards I will go and do some shopping as it is right in the centre of town, so I literally just walk to whichever shops I want to and have a bit of lunch as well. I will log that. Perhaps I can log the 4 hours tomorrow as 1 hour of walking? I have a fitbit, but something very bizarre happened to it and it doesn't work now.

log it as 1hr would be fine. it also depends what u have your activity level set at. mine is lightly active and i feel waitressing goes beyond that.

I don't log any of my walking etc as part of a job where I'm 9/hours of standing walking and running. If it's something you do regularly don't log it but if you end up doing it daily I would adjust your calories so you take into account your new active day

Speaking of walking : I walk daily on a treadmill - ( usually on slow or medium speed) today I did it for 30 minutes. I've been logging it as aerobics- general cause when I browse the list I don't see it listed. Someone told me I shouldn't be logging it as such. How else would I loh it? And to the OP- I would definitely log the walking around town part especially if it have hills and such

as sedetary i would log it. if this becomes a full time job change your activity setting and then don't log it. for the treadmill question there is numerous walking entries under exercise just choose the right speed

Well it depends on your pace. I log quite a lot from the gym at walking 3.5 brisk pace. The treadmill should register your pace, or how fast you walk.

I would not log it. I would not log shopping, either.

IMO exercise should be intentional - something we do for the purpose of health or activity. Not something we're doing that happens to be burning calories (that's part of your TDEE).

I'm very conservative with my calorie burns though, I'd rather under estimate my burn than over estimate and risk screwing with my deficit. It's up to you.

Considering there is an uphill part of my town and I see a lot of people out of breath, I will continue logging it, rather than unintentionally starve myself by ending up eating less than 1200.

it all comes down to doing what right for u. if one day u get to the point ur not losing maybe tighten up ur logging. thats my plan. so far so good but i would say always underestimate your burns. i cut mine in half generally. also 1200 is very hard to stick with. if u ever feel like ur starving all the time dont be afraid to bring it up by acouple hundred! ya u might lose a tiny bit slower but u might feel a heck of alot better

There's no reason to be snarky. You asked for input, I gave it. I'm sorry that it's not what you want to hear.

Maybe it would be a good idea to look into an activity tracker like a Fitbit.

How many calories do you really expect to burn sweeping hair and walking around at a slow pace?

I really can't imagine much at all. Do you work up a sweet? Heart pounding?

I usually do not log my normal daily activities, such as housework, my job, and walking around campus at school. My FitBit will sometimes automatically try and log it due to counting my steps, but I often delete that. I really only record true exercise, that gets my heart rate up. For me, my normal daily responsibilities and activities don't qualify. I would much rather underestimate how much I am burning and then get a nice surprise when I step on the scale than overestimate how much I am burning and eat more based off that and slow my progress. It's really up to you, though. I've seen people on here log that they burned 300+ calories doing an hour of chores. While I find this hard to believe, MFP does have it listed as an option, so if you really feel it is getting your heart rate up go ahead and log it.

Wether you log it or not seems irrelevant to me. Are you asking if you should eat more to compensate for an extra burn? If so, I'd say definitely not. Things like a few hours of increased activity will balance out due to other inaccuracies and you should use it as a bit of a cushion.

I wouldn't log that any more than I'd log a day spent running around doing more errands than usual. It's not as if that were daily activity.

Exercise is purposeful activity that raises your heart rate. You're not getting any significant calorie burn from what you're doing at your job.

And I'm with Virgoddess, I wouldn't log the shopping either. Just because "a lot of people" are out of breath? It just means they're unfit. The calculations for sedentary burns include those sorts of daily activities already.

If you feel that you need to add more calories for every day activities, are your goals too aggressive to begin with? Have you set your deficit for a 2 pound a week loss?

No I don't work up a sweat. Who said it was a ''slow pace''? Because quite frankly, it isn't whatsoever. It's a busy salon.

You guys are aware that I only eat 1440...... I always burn at least a couple hundred from walking around town, I'm a fast walker, I go to a lot of shops, and walking= using energy= burning calories. Please don't treat me like I'm new. Chances are I've been here longer than you. I am quite close to my goal weight.

I'd say no. If this is temporary I would put your activity level from Sedentary to light to allow the extra calories you will need.

Actually you seem determined, so whatever as its only an estimate and you seem determined to want to do so. Its only an estimate and your body will be registering 100% of he burned calories irrespecctive of what you put. Its no big deal and its your diet, so you get o decide what you do and do not log.

New or not, you sound hangry.

If you're so close to goal why are you only eating 1440 cals?

1440 calories a day, and you only need to loose 3 more? If you lost 27 pounds why not just keep eating they way you have until the magic 3 more is lost and forget about the salon/cleaning up hair?

Also exercise is considered keeping your heart rate up for a specific amount of time doing some type of activity for a duration of time. Cleaning up hair is not in this category in my mind. And this is once a week for 4 hours? If you have to put in some "generic" calories give your self 50 to 100 and be done with it. If you eat these back and start gaining weight you will know.

You said something happened to your fitbit? I had my fitbit replaced twice because of issues. Fitbit will replace this for you or you can take it back where you bought it. I have done both.

You can get your steps in and keep doing what you have been doing all along..

i dont log the walks to shops, school run, walks round theme parks. i dont think you should log it. your calorie goals do seem low, and this may be why you are anxious to log all types of movements. if it was me i would up my intake instead and then only log intentional exercise.
