Its hard to do both gain serious muscle and lose weight. This is why they tend to have both bulking and cutting phases. Im starting a bulk phase (wrong time of the year I know) means I have to eat as many lean calories and proteins as possible along with a good solid workout. Give it six - 8 months ill think about cutting. Which will be a highprotein but calorie reduced mealplan to lower my fat but try keeping the muscle. Stay away from long cardio sessions and try burning the fat with sessions of HIIT every so often. Good luck!

You really can't do both at once. If fat loss is your goal right now, then I would recommend lifting 3-4 days per week with compound lifts (squats, deadlift, bench, etc - look into Stronglifts 5x5 which is a great beginner's program) and eat high protein with moderate fat and carbs. Lifting and eating protein will preserve your muscle you already have. If you want, you can do light cardio between lifting days but it's not necessary for it to be high intensity.
