Tips for making calorie counting more accurate?

I understand that even the most honest logging can be pretty inaccurate...
I got a food scale today but I was wondering if anyone else had any other tips?
I want to strive for the most accurate logs possible!

- weigh your solids and measure your liquids
- don't use generic entries, find your actual product in the database or search using USDA (i.e. broccoli, steamed - USDA)
- If you are using the weight of cooked things then make sure you pick the cooked entry from the database...if you weigh it out raw use the raw entry. For example, 4 ounces of cooked chicken breast is going to have more calories than 4 ounces raw because that 4 ounces cooked was probably more like 5 or 6 ounces when it was raw
- Use the recipe builder for homemade recipes rather than generic, "suzies cream of chicken soup" or whatever. I did use those in a pinch, but I entered most of my recipes into the recipe builder over time.
- eat out less

I read a helpful tip on here to weigh out messy stuff like peanut butter, mayo, etc. - place the jar on your scale and zero it out. Then scoop out what you need and the negative number is the amount you log. One of the best tips I've gotten from this site!
