Some days it's really hard to stay focused on myself for my diet and fitness. My best friend called this AM. Her husband has been fighting bone cancer for 4 years. I've watched the highs and lows - and simply just don't ever know the right thing to say or do. He now has an aggressive acute form of leukemia! I'd given up sugar for several months, when they found spots of cancer in his lungs in January - Cancer loves sugar. And I'd recently let myself have a sugary treat again here and there.

I want to do something motivating. I'm running a 1/2 marathon in June - how do I go about dedicating my run to him?

I've seen loads of people running races with shirts on dedicating their race to someone or other. It's a wonderful gesture.

Here is a way you can dedicate your run to him while doing soething special.
Contact your local cancer foundation and tell them that you want to run a half marathon in your friend's honour. Alternatively you can contact your local cancer treatment centre and see if they have a need for a piece of equipment that you can work towards. Then hit up all of your friends and ask them to sponsor you (ie. make a donation in honour of your friend to the charity that you have idenitified). Set a fundraising goal whether it be $50.oo or $5000.00. Post your plan on facebook and direct people to the charity where they can make their donation online. Post updates on your facebook page on how close you are to reaching your goal. Then on race day, put your friends name or picture on your number card.

    Good luck
