Having Surgery...

So i'm having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed Friday and I'm not quote sure how to prepare. I won't be eating much this weekend, and anything I eat for a week-ish after my surgery will be liquid or soft which means I probabluy won't be eating a ton of calories and I won't be working out much because of my medicines.
What should I do as far as calories goes for the next few days? Should I exercise a lot while I can? Should I eat more so my body doesn't go into starvation mode? Or should I just act like normal and do what I've been doing?
help

You will find that the recovery is faster than you think.
I was back at work the day after, and even though you eat softer foods, there are plenty to choose from. Don't cut your calories for a whole week (you won't need to anyway).
Mashed potatos with cheese and butter
Yogurt
Butternut squash soup
Milk shakes/protein shakes
etc.....
You will recover faster if you are eating regularly. Drink lots of water before and after.0 -
i recently had my wisdom teeth out and i prepared before i had them out i stocked up on sugar free jello and pudding and i got ice cream, mashed potatoes and icepops you will prob sleep most of the day away so wont be eating much
i am just getting back to real food a week later and now i picked up on my diet again
hope this helps0 -
When you get the out, don't eat anything hot. It hurts like a b$#@! and can cause the swelling to be worse.
I wouldn't load up too much on food for the next few days, mainly because you may not feel like working out and you won't be able to burn those calories off.0 -
You wont be working out for about a week afterwards, not due to meds, but due to restrictions. You dont want to rupture a blood clot and get dry socket, which is extremly critical the first 72 hours
Its your choice as to whether you want to excercise more before but there isnt any need to binge eat prior too. Especially sense you might end up wanting high caloric foods (ice cream) while healing.
First day-two days are cold soft foods, ice cream, pudding, yogurt, milk shakes, protein shakes, smoothis, applesauce, room temp soup or eggs. NO STRAWS. You can move to warm soft foods the next 2-3 days freshly cooked eggs, soup, mashed potatoes, slightly overdone pasta (avoid marinara sauces with your pain meds) all of the foods from the previouse days. Then its really at your jurisdiction on going back to normal foods, basically if it hurts to eat it DONT EAT IT. Anything salty or with high citric acid is better to avoid because itll make the healing sockets hurt more, and citric acid can upset your stomach, especially with pain meds. Bread/crackers isnt totally advised until 48-72 hours after surgery.
Hope this helpsGotta love having even Dental Assistants that have worked with oral surgeons on this site!

BTW the paler you are the more likely you are to bruise, they will give you post op instructions but the ice is incredibly important!0

When I got all of mine cut out, (before I was eating healthy) it was ice cream, applesauce, mashed potatoes.
If I was to have it done now, mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes, no sugar added applesauce, skinny cow ice cream, greek yogurt.0 -
Since recovering from surgery of any kind and healing in general are strenous on the body i would eat at maintenace during this time as running a deficit can just add an unncesary burden. Enjoy the rest and your body will thank you later.0

I did farely well with my surgery. I had all four cut out and was back at work in a couple days. Enjoy your time to rest. I doubt you will gain any weight. Stay away from hot things that can burst your sutures. I loved jello cups and pudding. Just make sure you dont suck out of a straw. Eat milkshakes or anything like that with a spoon. Hope all goes well0

I had a worst-case scenario nightmare with mine & was still back at work in a week.
Think about ensure or slimfast or some other meal replacement drinks. Just remember...NO STRAWS! Even if you're on pain meds you'll want something with nutrition in it. Good luck!0
