I need advice big time. I have never done this before, and have no idea what to do or where to start. I am a 5'3 21 year old female who weighs 185 and I want to go down to 125 in less then a year. I have never exercised (but plan on doing fitnessblender exercises) I use to drink soda every day all day, and go out to eat fast food at least 3 times a week. I plan on cutting off soda and fast food completely. I made my profile and MFP is telling me to eat 1,200 cal a day. So if I eat 1,200 calories how much do I need to burn off a day? Also what I burn off do I need to eat any of the calories back? I am so confused on what to do because I've seen on a lot of websites that 1,200 calories is to little. So if i eat 1,200 calories a day and burn 400 calories a day that would really be 800 calories a day? I am so confused on how to do this dieting/exercising thing. Please help!

Enter your profile into MFP along with your realistic weight loss goal and eat to calorie goal given. Easy game.
  • My realistic weight goal is 125. So i just eat 1,200 cal and dont exercise??

    Why would you not exercise?
  • I'm very new to all of the dieting/exercising stuff. People have told me my minimum intake should be 1,200 never to go lower. MFP is telling me to eat 1,200 calories..if i burn 300 a day I would be at 800 cal..is that how its supposed to work???

I am new as well, but I think it means if you have exercised you can then eat back what you have worked off. So if you had eaten up all your 1,200 calories and then you exercised and burned 300, you then have 300 calories to "spend" in your food diary if you want to.

If you are setting a baseline of 1200 calories you would need to eat your exercise calories back. 1200 is the lowest MFP will recommend you stick to. I would look for a less aggressive goal of 1lb a week so you have more calories to play with. 1200 calories made me angry.

It's possible to lose over a pound a week, but if that's what you expect to lose, you're probably setting yourself up for failure. First, it takes a while for the first few pounds to fall off. Then you have to stick to a ridiculous calorie count/exercise regiment for an entire year - holidays, vacations, birthdays, nights out, sickness, etc. included. Take a break, cut back to half a pound a week, give yourself some leeway, and enjoy the journey instead while keeping yourself healthy.
