@Timby1 - Hills? I need hills, have none around me and really need to do some hill work since I seem to be running halfs that always have terrible hills in them! I am driving to a park tomorrow morning specifically to run hills! Great job on almost 8 miles today!
@ddmom0811 - don't you just love hitting that groove! It is such a great feeling!
@Elise4270 - I don't get cramps when I run but I do get cramps in my calves and hamstrings and even my feet occasionally when I am doing other exercises, stretches and sometimes at night. My daughter recommended a magnesium oxide supplement and it seems to have helped. Also I work on engaging my glutes when I am running which basically just means squeezing my butt when I push off with my foot. There are some good articles in Runners World with strengthening exercises:
    http://www.runnersworld.com/workouts/glute-strength
    http://www.runnersworld.com/injury-prevention-recovery/the-whole-body-fix
@Wendy1Fl - So glad you found someone who could help you get some relief with your back!

    Date.......Miles......Total
    04/01.....4.07.......4.07 - +2 mile walk
    04/02.....5.20.......9.27 - + Strength Training
    04/03.....6.48.....15.75
    04/04...13.10.....28.85
04/05.....0.00.....28.85 - Rest - 3 mile walk on the beach
    04/06.....7.20.....36.05 - + Agility
    04/07.....6.24.....42.29 - + Strength Training
    04/08.....0.00.....42.29 - Rest + Strength Training
04/09.....4.37.....46.66 - Surprisingly good tempo run
    04/10.....6.20.....52.86

First 5 miles was under 10.5 min pace, last mile was more or less walking because I had to join a conference call for a meeting I was late to

@shanaber I'll try the mag oxide. I suspected that it could be electrolyte imbalance. Thanks for the tips!

Edit- About 6 months ago I noticed that I could not engage my left glute. Thanks for the article. I'll continue self rehabbing!

12.5 "easy" today. I was at a big group run with a friend and ran the first three miles with her, til she turned off to the 6 mile course. Couldn't figure out why I was struggling because I thought my pace was pretty on point. Uh, no, I had just accidentally set a 5k PR. I slowed down a tad bit after that

    28.1 for the month. Sigh.

There....all updated. So hard to keep on top of updating when the little fart sack is home for the week and the hubby is off for break up. We have been running as a family, with my daughter riding her bike along with us. Almost got hubby addicted, his main goal is to push me. And he does it well. He runs faster than me, so I push to keep up with him. And we have been doing long runs, for me anyway. We don't go less than 7.5. We do trails, roads, hills, coulee's, fields....its been challenging but fun. It's been getting quite warm in the afternoons, so we have to start going a bit earlier.

In a spectacular example of my typical gracefulness, I damn near face-planted on the steps of the Capitol in Colonial Williamsburg today ... right in front of all the tourists taking selfies and such in front of the Capitol. Look for me on youtube ...

Bright side (there's always a bright side): my pace improved significantly as I ran away (literally) from the scene.

    Happy weekend, lovely running peeps!

@elise4270 when Skip gets cramps the coach said bananas. Are you having a bad day, I notice the new picture
@SBRRepeat LOL that's one day to set a new PR

@skippygirlsmom lol! Nah, was funny. LoneWolfRunner had a bird profile pic an my husband found this one from a year ago, thought I'd play along. I hate pics and he wouldn't quit taking them.

I keep up on the potassium, I think.

I'm almost positive I favor muscle groups. With all the back issues I've had I think I've left my quads, abs and glutes out of doing any work. So, With my calves and hamstrings doing all the work I'm cramping. If I focus on lifting my knees I engage the muscles I've left out or let switch off. Least its a working theory, along with watching the electrolytes.

75 miles again for me, but this time I'm only counting the miles I run. Walking miles are just a bonus.

    exercise.png
    4/1 - 3 miles - total: 3 miles
    4/3 - 4 miles - total: 7 miles
    4/6 - 7.5 miles - total 14.5 miles
    4/7 - 7 miles - total 21.5 miles
    4/8 - 6.2 miles - total 27.7 miles
    4/9 - 4.75 miles - total 32.45
    4/11 - 7.5 miles - total 39.95

Amendment: If I walk a total of less than 5 minutes out of 90, I'm not going to try to take the walk breaks back out of my mileage total.

    @shanaber: Meeting call during a run? Now that's time-efficient!
@SBRRepeat : If you have enough hills to spare, I would also take one or two. If I want more than a slight slope, I have to run quite a bit, far enough that that works only for the long runs. And even then, my "hills" would probably make other people laugh... B)
@4leighbee Glad you didn't hurt your face. Lol on the bright side - sometimes looking good in front of complete strangers can be a real good motivation during a run ^^

My foam roller arrived today :)
Recently the outside of my left knee has sometimes felt a bit sore. Not really painful, but I "felt it" when walking down stairs and such. I don't want to turn it into a serious injury, so I skipped my long run last week, took it easy this week and invested in the foam thingy after some reading.
My knee seems to be okay again (didn't feel it at all during or after yesterday's run), but I decided to start using the roller anyway. Ouch! I thing "rolling my IT band" hurt a lot more than the knee ever did!

5.14 hard miles for me today. They actually weren't that hard, for once just a slight incline, but this challenge has me running wayyyy more than I ever have...may need to cut back the mileage just a little and let my body catch up to what my mind thinks it should do. :(

I have plenty of hills around here to spare and beautiful weather to boot. Be happy to share it with any and all...

@MCMorBust - welcome to the group and back to MFP!
@4leighbee - your post made me laugh so hard! It is so something I would have done!! Glad. You didn't actually fall and that you got away quick!
@SBRRepeat - I would love to take you up on that if I could have them here without having to drive to get to them! I guess I just need to move closer to the park where I go to run them. Great job on the PR too!
@_nikkiwolf_ - it would be even better if I could figure out how to be on the webex too, but I would probably trip and fall watching it and not where I am going!
