Maintaining weight? eating problems? period wont return?

Options
I want to maintain/gain weight at the moment
im 5 foot 9 inches
58kg
Female, 22

I think i need to gain weight since ive almost been off the depo injection to stop my periods for almost 3 years and still i havent had any form of bleeding/periods
At my lowest weight from stress I was 48kg
I have gradually put the weight back on after restoring most eating but its taken be 2 1/2 years to put the 10kg back on again

Do you think my weight is why my period hasnt returned?
Also mfp is saying 1700 to maintain
I normally only eat 1200 or under (somedays its 1500-1600)

Should i just boost my calories to maintence and see what happens?
Just need some advice

I have been to my GP and it wasn't useful, they just told me to eat more

Any help/advice would be great

You're probably right- no periods do mean you are probably under weight.
Most women maintain around 2000cals so I would really make that a minimum. Although you are tall and want to gain so you could probably go up to 2500+ atleast until your periods come back. So yep boost your calories!

Make sure you're eating enough dietary fat as well - very important for hormone regulation.

A friend of mine had similar problems recently and was seen by a fertility clinic. She was told it can happen when you've fallen below your ideal weight in the past even if you are at a better level now. The advice was to drink full fat milk every day - apparently it has the right composition and vitamins/minerals and some women need a higher body fat percentage to be fertile. But you might want to get some medical advice, your GP isn't a specialist.

I'd start with following the advice you got from your doctor and eat more. Start with MFP's maintenance recommendation. You can get more calories by focusing on calorie dense foods. Think fattier cuts of meat, salmon, nuts, nut butters, avocados, olives, and don't be afraid to throw in some pasta, ice cream, pizza, or whatever you like.
