I just walked 0.62 miles in 15 minutes, my new pedometer says this is this is 1795 steps and that I burned 91.1Kcal, that's 911 calories, right? That can't be right, can it?

    They say approximately 2000 steps is a mile. Obviously this varies per person as everyones stride is different, but that is the average.

    I'm on 3600 steps, 1.53 miles and 908 calories burned per my Fitbit One.

    Kcal = Calorie

    Did you set a stride length ?

    Most peoples Average step is a bit over 2 ft so a mile is around 2000- 2500 so yes that can be right. Calories burned reflects how hard you pushed but the pedometer doesn't know your heart rate, incline ect. So don't count on the burn being exact.

    I'm really short, my stride length is only 22". But it is a;lready 80 degrees out and I was fighting my dogs for half that time. I wish I had bought a fitbit.

    This just doesn't make sense. Half a mile. 900 calories burned. If this were the case people who walk lets say 2 miles during their jobs would have a TDEE of 5000 calories.

    Sorry didn't see where you had 911 Cal's no! A kc is a calorie so you burned 91. Sorry about that
  • For some reason, most pedometers are using the wrong units of measure. 1kcal=1000calories in real life, but for pedometers 1kcal=1cal. I don't know why they do it that way but it's completely wrong.

    Your FitBit One is (likely) not measuring the same thing as OP's pedometer. Your FitBit One is trying to measure your TDEE. This is calories for walking, brushing your teeth, sleeping, etc. If I'm not mistaken your FitBits clock started at midnight.

    OP - do you have a stand alone pedometer or an activity tracker? No way is 1 mile 900+ calories.

    Here's another estimate for calories and pedometer steps....http://walking.about.com/library/cal/uccalc3.htm
