Gaining weight but doing everything right?

Shay, I think you look great, just sayin'0

I never said that I was a doctor. I was simply trying to explain something that I thought would be more useful for you. It does pertain to your weight loss. I'll leave it up to you to find out how though, since you obviously know all about it. Best wishes to you on your weight loss journey.0

Opening my diary wouldn't help because I rarely ever log in it, I write it down. I do weigh my food most meals and pretty much follow the serving size and calories to a T. I time my exercising and calculate my pace (MPH) then use the MFP log to see how many calories I burned.
Why are you using MFP if you rarely log? That's what MFP is all about ... logging your food.
For the next 2 weeks, try logging everything you eat ... absolutely everything. Be meticulous about it. Be accurate. Note that not all the food choices that come up on MFP are accurate, so you will need to check and double check. Compare what's on MFP with what's on the package or with what's on another site like Nutrition Data to be sure. Weigh everything.
When you sign up for MFP they do not require a signed affidavit that you will log your calories.
There are other features to this site besides the daily food log.
I assume that we can use any or all of them as we desire.

In the OP's case of using the exercise log (that is rarely accurate) it seems like she is using the most useless function available on the website pertaining to weight loss.0 -

One of the most useful tools is the recipe builder and the food data base.
I lost 40lbs before I joined MFP...I kept track of my calories in a notebook.
I agree with the exercise calculator...most of them are at best inaccurate.
BTW...I log my calories but at some point I will probably stop...at least try to...I will however continue to use the site.

According to you, you are doing everything right, but people disagree with you fundamentally about your logging and methodology. Nope ypu arent doing everything right am afraid, nor do you seem interested in what people are trying to point you towards. Obviously you can do it your own way, but without a reliable method to know whether you are in deficit or not, then you deny yourself information that you really need.0

If you feel like you may truly have Celiac Disease you need to ask your doctor for a blood test to see. If you feel like maybe you are having a slight reaction when consuming wheat products you should go and get allergy testing done. Also please don't say that you are allergic to gluten and then eat it in front of others because it causes a real problem for people where it is medical necessary for them stick to a gluten free diet.

Coming from all the issues my wife has dealt with, I would highly disagree with your statement that there is no such thing as a gluten allergy. To assume such is rather narrow minded, IMO. There are plenty of people who do not favorably respond to gluten products, and the includes items outside of wheat. I know this because my wife has the same reaction to soy sauce or certain bbq sauces as she does with bread, which is extreme lethargy, GI discomfort and skin irritation. In fact, when she was using shampoos that were derived from gluten products, she had dry and irritated scalp. We know this after working with an Endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, electrophysiologist, POTS specialist and other cardiologist. My wife has a medical condition called POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). And according to several of her specialist, about 50% of people with POTS, benefit from a gluten free and low carb diet. Sadly, it took a few years to figure out all of this. The moment she went gluten free, her stomach pains went away and she stopped taking naps. Additionally, once we switched shampoos, the irritation subsided. On top of that, she tested negative for IBS, celiac, Crohns and more.
So while the OP might not have a so called allergy, maybe it's more accurate to say sensitivity. Who knows, the whole gluten thing is rather new in terms of research. And it will continue to change as more information is available. But one thing is for certain, people react different ways to different food items. I know people who have issues with strawberries, red meat, dairy and a variety of other foods.
Having said all of that, I would recommend that OP start tracking her calories on MFP. This way, we can make a more educated recommendation. It's also potential that she does not follow the standard algorithms and might have to adjust her calories lower. But that is hard to say without a solid food diary.0 -

Why say you're doing everything right ... as the OP has done ... when you're not using a calorie logging site (MFP) to log calories?
All I'm suggesting is that she use the site to log all her calories meticulously for 2 weeks. And then see how she's really doing.

From reading everything in this thread so far, it seems that only positive answers are welcome. It seems that any sort of questions pertaining to how you are losing weight or trying to are unwelcome and that you are not open to advice from others. With that, I will say that your weight fluctuates often through the day, the week, and the month. TOM will affect it, water retention will affect it, building muscle will affect it, sodium levels will affect it, when you weigh yourself during the day will affect it... so many things can. For 3 lbs, I'd not worry about it. If you see consistent increasing numbers, then I'd take a serious look at how your are logging. It's a mathematical equation of calories in vs calories out. Good luck.0

No one wants to carry around a food scale everywhere they go, and weigh what that eat! Thats crazy, unless you have health issues and do that because a DOCTOR recommended it then it would make sense. Otherwise it sounds nuts! You can have MFP and not log your food at all! I usually just use it for logging my exercise, to see how much calories I burned. Could you be any more negative! If you have nothing postive or helpful to add then just dont say anything!-1 -

Don't get me wrong...I think she needs to log for a while whether she does it on line or in a notebook. Regardless of where she does it...she needs to be accurate with what she is consuming.
When I got serious about logging was when my old methods quit working and I hit a stall for several weeks. I quickly learned that my old method was off just enough to put me at maintenance.
My problem was the..."Why are you on MFP if you are not logging?" question that was asked.

I genuinely hope I don't come off as insensitive but it is quite likely that your wife actually does have Celiac Disease. Both the blood test and biopsy can come back as negative. What they basically do at that point is to have you try going gluten free. If the symptoms improve than it more than likely is Celiac Disease. False negatives are actually more commen than you would think, which stinks. Both Celiac Disease and TOPS have a genetic components as well as a high comorbidity rate. It would also explain her classic Celiac symptoms, including the Dermatitis Herpetiformus. Now that she is gluten free they can't retest for it, but if it is working I'm going to call it like I see it. Many times reducing wheat and/or gluten can help people suffering from autoimmune diseases. That isn't because they are "allergic" to gluten, but because it may lead to reduced inflammation in the body.0 -
Wow, okay, I DO LOG MY FOOD. Just not on this site. I WRITE it down on PAPER. I could open my diary to you guys but it would be totally empty because I don't log it on here. I look at the serving size on what I eat and make sure I do correct portions then write down how many calories that meal was after doing the math and making sure it's correct. I'm not denying anything, I'm trying to tell you guys that I am not eating too much. Unless the food manufactures are lying about how many calories are in what they are selling then I'm not going over near enough to have gained what I did.
You can go on and keep telling me I'm eating too much but I know that's not the case, if anything I'm not eating enough on some days. I've been keeping a written daily log of every single thing I put into my mouth for months now, I'm not over eating.

Look, OP, it's this simple: You asked for advice from everyone on this site. People replied with their advice. You decided you didn't like their advice. That's within your rights to do, but don't go lashing out at people who are only trying to help.
If what you're doing is working for you, then go forth and have much success. If it's not working for you, maybe consider changing it. It's up to you.0 -
You're doing everything right. The Weight Gods are against you, that is all. It's not your fault. They just suck.0
-
What do you want me to do? Log on here? Okay, fine, I will log on here rather than on paper if it really means that much to all of you. Then what? I'm not going over my calories... so... after I spend 2 weeks logging everything and you guys see that I don't over eat what will your advice be because that's what is going to happen.
I'm frustrated because I'm trying to explain to all of you that I'm staying within my calorie goal and nobody wants to listen. And nobody can stand to squeeze out an ounce of encouragement either. When I talk to someone who is having a hard time because they've given up all the food they love to feel better and lose weight and they can't lose I don't yell at them and call them mentally ill or stupid, I don't make them feel like they're going overboard, I try and make them feel better. Confidence helps everything and people on this site just can't seem to stop ripping it from my hands.0 -
People were very nice to you. You came back with your boxing gloves on. People don't usually react well to that.
Nobody was mean initially but you were extremely snarky and defensive.0 -

Just wondering in case I've missed it on here, but how are you measuring out your portions to know if it is indeed the correct serving size or not? I ask because I see many people not knowing how to properly. I suggest a food scale, not sure if you have one or not. Weight is one of the best ways to get an accurate portion size.
To be honest, log your food however you see fit. Log it, don't log it. Log it here, log it on paper, don't. It's completely your choice and your journey. People are asking you questions on here so they can try to help you. Each weight loss journey is individual and what works for one doesn't work for others. It's up to each person to figure out for themselves what is working and what isn't. If what you are doing isn't working, change something and see how it goes. If that yields results, great! If not, then change something else. Only you can take care of that.
Aside from, all I can say is that what I wrote in my last comment re: many different factors that can lead to a temporary gain still apply. See how it is in a week or two. Weight loss isn't linear. If it continues getting higher then adjust.
I can only wish you good luck. I'm sorry I cannot help you further.

OP, you obviously don't like the advice given here. I'm not sure what you want to hear, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. Everyone hears you, but no matter what is said you get defensive. Nobody is doing anything to take confidence from you. I'm really not sure where you're seeing this. It sounds like you are projecting your own frustrations on other posts here. Maybe it's time to consult a doctor (or maybe a different doctor if you already have one) since you are not getting the answers you want here.

Okay, I'm trying to tell you guys, that I'm not over eating. That's it. But you're all pretty much insisting that I am despite me repeatedly telling you that I am 100% certain I am not.
What do you want me to do? Please just tell me straight up exactly what you think I should do and I'll try it. I will. But I'm not over eating, I can log my food to a T on this site but the outcome isn't going to be over eating. I'm stuck. I can't lose anything and I am 6 pounds heavier than my goal for yesterday so yes that upset me and I'm so so so sorry that you guys cannot see that. I've been overweight my entire life, I finally started losing and got almost halfway there, I've given up so many unhealthy foods and have been exercising and trying so hard and gained weight and that made me feel like absolute *kitten*. Monday morning was spent crying over the scale because I was hungry and tired and I coke here for help and support and all I get is judgement.0 -
Log every single morsel you eat and drink on here honestly and accurately for 2 weeks.
Then come back and ask for advice, if you still need it.
This is what I'd be doing0 -

I'm not seeing the word "weigh" in there anywhere.
So take a few shots with your phone and throw your log up on Imgur.

Geez nobody here is ever nice. I don't ask questions often because I always get lectured.
I said slightly allergic because I don't have severe pain, vomiting or rashes and etc when I eat bread. I had an allergy test done by my allergist who did go to 8 years of college and has a license and yes it was also assessed by a licensed nutritionist. I cannot eat bread, when I do try to eat it I get stomach pain and diarrhea and feel awful the next day. So yeah, I think I'm allergic to it. But thanks for your judgement, it just helped so so much.
I cut out all that food for the same reason. I live with chronic pain, if I drink soda, eat bread, fast food etc then I can't get out of bed in the morning and want to cry the entire day following because of how awful I feel. When I cut it all out I felt so much better. And taking my nutritional supplements have helped my IBS, allergies, fibro, they've helped everything. I feel better so I'm going to stick with what is working for me.
I didn't cut out that food just to lose weight, I did it because I want to be able to wake up and not have to take a handful of painkillers just to get through the day. I have depression issues from my pain and cutting that food out, drinking water only and taking my vitamins make me feel better physically and emotionally. I don't need people lecturing me about trying to feel better.

MFPis on a roll today. Did you come here for answer or did you come here to be told something you wanted to hear.
I think she came here to be told something she wants to hear to be honest, and everything that isn't what she wants to hear she labels as judgement. You hit the nail on the head with that comment.
