I am trying to up my protein, especially at breakfast and i was wondering what you guys thought about protein shakes. Do they fill you up? Or is it more of a supplement that is not supposed to?

I use about 1/3 of the serving size for Amplified Whey Protein from GNC and am full for hours!0

I always have one after a workout as a snack. Depends on what I mix with it I usually make a smoothie with a scoop or a scoop and a half of unflavored protein powder and it's pretty filling.0

I have one WITH my breakfast and just introduced them as my morning snack as well. They are a great way to get in more protein.0

didn't even read the other posts....I always have protein shakes...sometimes 2-3 times a day. Depending on how you take will determine if they fill you up.0

I love my protein shakes. I don't drink them at breakfast though, only after workouts.0

Just drinking normal whey protein isolate shake made with water really isn't enough to give the full feeling. Try using low fat or skim milk with some berries or frozen fruit with the powder. You get the fiber from the fruit and an addition amount of protein from the milk. Or you can throw a little plain oatmeal into the blender with a bit more water and you can get a balanced meal.0

I love that one! The four I generally use are:
AMP http://www.protein-powder-resource.com/GNC_AMP_Protein.html
Gold Standard (low sodium so yay! ) http://www.optimumnutrition.com/products/100-whey-gold-standard-p-201.html
EAS http://www.protein-powder-resource.com/EAS_protein_powder.html
Muscle Milk http://www.protein-powder-resource.com/muscle_milk_protein.html
Now I've read several resources that say women could benefit from also adding Soy protein :Shrugs: I'm not sure of the actual health benefit but have seen the Soy based protein is generally lower in cal, but also lower in protein so... LOL
I think any of the above would be great... For example - my breakfast shake is:
8oz of either water or milk (80 calories for skim, 120 for 2%, 130 for Soy)
1 serving of the protein (120 to 130 generally speaking)
4oz of Fage or Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt... (roughly 65 to 85 calories)
I take it at 7am and I cannot believe it's time to eat at noon LOL
I hope the info helps!0
