Fat is o.k. in moderation. A calorie is a calorie is a calorie!
Fats have 9cal/gram while proteins & carbs have 4cal/gram. So, you can eat twice the grams in proteins & carbs and still consume fewer calories than a gram of fats. The catch is that you need to read labels.
Just because something is low fat DOES NOT mean it is low calorie! You definitely want to avoid unhealthy fats and stick with it in a natural form. Processed foods will be higher than, say, a handful of peanuts. You need fat in your diet. Fats actually trigger stages in digestion/absorption of food.
Hope that helps!0 -
Arianne is right...fats are good! The only one to avoid is trans fat, because the shape of the molecule isn't found in nature so we can't break it down properly. About 1/3 of your fats can come from saturated fat. Unless you have a pre-existing condition of high cholesterol, saturated fats aren't going to hurt, and they are actually helpful in building muscle. But trans fat isn't helpful in any way, and it actually raises bad cholesterol and lowers good cholesterol.0
