i am quite good at judging calories and food for weight loss, but soon as I finish work the last thing I want to do is exercise. However it's needed for weight loss.. How did others get started?!

It's not needed for weight loss. It is supremely helpful for good health and mood.

Here is my question to you, do you think you will feel better physically and mood wise if you exercise after work? Will you feel better or worse that evening? Will you feel better or worse in the long run?

Could you start by just going for walks after work? Each time make it a little bit longer.

I still work out on the elliptical, treadmill, inside bike and I lift weights, but my true love in terms of exercise is walking outdoors.

    How about exercising before work?

Here's what I blogged about my perception of the effort before and after success.

Try out a bunch of things and pick something you love that you can stick with. Also considering changing the time of day when you are at your energy peak. It could be in the morning or over lunch.

Some things that may work for you depending on how you respond to motivation:
    • Finding a form of exercise that you love doing -- not just the results, but the actual "during" part.
    • Working "stealth" exercise into your day -- commuting more actively, finding ways to take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.
    • Setting a challenge or goal for yourself -- signing up for a 5k or half-marathon, joining a 30-day fitness challenge, whatever.
    • Finding a workout buddy or paying for some sessions with a personal trainer.
    • Scheduling your exercise into your day as much as possible.

Everyone's different and will respond to the above in different ways. But ultimately, nobody else can motivate you to do something you don't want to do. You have to decide that you want it more than you want to NOT exercise.

Thanks to squats, I have a butt that could make a grown man drop. Thanks to rows, my shoulders are straighter, and I have a reduction in back pain. Thanks to lunges, my legs feel firmer than they did when I was 20, and I love how powerful I feel when I walk.
Thanks to cardio, I run up and down the stairs, and always jump off the second bottom step, just like I did when I was a kid.
I can't decribe how freaking amazing strength and fitness feels. I'm still 50lbs overweight, but I look and feel amazing. I strongly encourage you to try it for yourself. 2 weeks, and you'll be hooked in a way that Bella and Edward couldn't do for you. ( or, what ever culture reference you'd like)
There, all true, and hopefully motivating.

Wow, bluworld,if ever there was an advert for exercise, you would be in the top ten! You have even made me want to lunge and squat....in a good way!

Well done you!! Am in awe....but don't let it go to your head; I seem to attract pals that have great exercise ethics.......cept me! I must be the placebo plant.......!

It's not "needed" for weight loss, but it does help the deficit. Try exercising before work.

I got started because I was tired of my back hurting while giving kids a bath and honestly I just needed a lifestyle change.

I had to find an exercise program that was short and simple and could do at home. Working full time and with 2 young kids I exercise after they are in bed so around 8.30pm. Started with 30 day shred and am now doing strong lifts. Both done in around 30min. I also go for 20min walk during work lunch breaks.
