The NSV that makes every second in the gym worth it

Startjng this journey my main focus was to get healthy and set a better example for my young children. It's been hard, especially since I have to sacrifice time with them to get to the gym. But in one small moment this morning, it was all worth it.

We were at open gym which is where a gymnastics center in town opens up for free play. My four year old's allergies were really dragging her down so she was needing some extra cuddles and being carried around. She is also big for her age so is sized more like a six year old. My toddler (who is sized like a three year old) still needs a lot of help on the equipment. I was feeling incredible pulling her out of the foam pit, running with her, etc all while carrying her sister and it wasn't even a real challenge. Then she (somehow) cut her toe so she needed picked up. Without even thinking I just pulled her up so I was carrying both. In the moment I was just meeting my kids' needs when another mom (who is a runner and in great shape) says "whoa, it's like you have superpowers!"

And that's exactly how I felt. A year ago I would have had to put my four year old down when she was needing the affection and give my toddler rushed care rather than taking my time with her. But because I've become stronger, I could meet both their needs together. I feel guilty spending time at the gym sometimes, but today that time literally meant I got to be a better mom. And being told that I have superpowers didn't feel too shabby. ;)

I really love this! I'm a new mom and my little girl is only three months old, but she is one of the biggest reasons that I'm on this journey (the number one reason is for me). Knowing that the more energy, strength, endurance, and overall health I have will make it easier to keep up with her, play with her, and be that better mom as you said, is priceless to me!

Plus, your kids (and mine) are watching you get stronger and seeing you make health a priority. That example is huge and will make a lasting impression on them!

    Great job mom!

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words! I can't believe how good it feels to be strong. I am truly at peace with whatever weight my body is at, but this feeling of being strong and more able is not something I ever want to lose!

Believe me, as the daughter of a mum that crash dieted, put herself down and hung up pics of lingerie models on the fridge, this is a MUCH healthier way to go about things!

I had a similar moment with toddler one day. I popped a disk lifting (yep I'm a dope) and Smush needed a cuddle. Lifting a 35lb sad toddler was gonna hurt but ya do what ya gotta do.

I squatted, picked him up using my arms and lifted up. NO BACK PAIN!

So keep on going. You're an

    That's awesome!

I also came from a home with a dad who was a carpenter so his workouts were built in to her day and a mom who dieted when needed and made workouts sound like a chore. I love that my kids get excited to "exercise" and see it as just part of a lifestyle rather than what you do to reach a goal.

That is so awesome!!! I feel guilty for going to the gym too!! I'm really hoping it pays off for me one day, just like it did for you!! Congratulations on being super mom!!
