Working out for Mental Gains

Has anybody here experienced a mental/emotional recovery from working out?
How did you feel before? Stressed? Anxious? Depressed?
How did physical activity change that?
Do you usually work out at home or somewhere else?
Alone or with others?
Overall, how effective would you say physical activity is for achieving a happier, more balanced state?

Yes (not total, but that's because it's a lifelong struggle)

    Clinically depressed (bipolar)

Greatly improved overall mood, outlook, and motivation, especially following an exercise session.

At my apartment complex's gym, so effectively at home.

With friends, otherwise I wouldn't be able to make myself do it when I'm feeling down, and it would go back to being a vicious cycle since lack of motivation is a symptom of depression.

Extremely helpful coupled with proper medication. Neither is as effective by themselves.

Helps me deal w/stresses of the day

How did you feel before? Stressed? Anxious? Depressed?

    Anxious, irritable

How did physical activity change that?

Allows me to work it out conveniently rather than being all ticked off.

Do you usually work out at home or somewhere else?

    Gym, typically

    Alone or with others?

I try to be solitary in my training, but there are always other people around - I do not prefer that, but deal w/it.

Overall, how effective would you say physical activity is for achieving a happier, more balanced state?

    Very effective for me.

(I feel like this is a research questionnaire).
