Okay so I am no small Lady...312 lbs right now...

I have a polar FT4...and after 20mins on the elliptical it says I have burned 178 calories. But on here it says I should have burned 400 and something...I have found this with nearly every exercise...I am DRIPPING in sweat.. bah humbug!

heh - i understand - when I first got my polar (ft7) there was about 80/cals per 10 minute less discrepancy from the machine, but now I know that I burn approx 80-90 cals per 10 minutes with a pretty consistent intensity - i celebrate my personal numbers.

it sounds like you are on track =)
Celebrate that burn girl - and keep up the great work!

p.s. sadly, i've learned that sweat is relative ;-)

That doesn't sound right at all. I've heard of people saying that they have faulty HRM's before. I'm 190 and I burn about 250-300 on an elliptical in that amount of time. It seems weird to me.

Yes I think they are all correct - my FT4 shows me burning 900 calories in 60 minutes - so 300 every 20 minutes...
I'm 40, 5'11" male, and 280 pounds... All of that obviously programmed into the device
You should probably be seeing similar...

Out of curiosity - are you wetting the pads of the strap until they are good and wet before putting it on? and also have you go the "monitor" in the right place... ugh - guy trying to be PC in the question lol - right on the breast bone or as close to it as possible?
If so - I suppose it's possible that it's malfunctioning - if its staying in place and reporting your heart rate then it should be working ok...

One other thing - i can sweat like a horse at 40% of max heart rate - but I get the burn above by maintaining 60-85% of Max Heart Rate... That might help some too ?

    Hope it helps!

That sounds really low. Did you program your stats into the HRM?

wow - i didn't realize that those numbers were deemed low ... (as they are similar to what I burn and have been checked by my trainer intermittently over the last 6 months [5'7 / 190lbs) - I have always been in awe of some of the great numbers I see here, and wondered how they got them so high .. now I am curious to see if the error is not on my end ....

Yes I have programed everything in! I get that sucker good and wet before putting it on...and it goes directly under the bottom of my bra strap...

    maybe I will call polar...

yes but you are also 120 lbs less then me so doing the same amount of work should be more calories...at least that is what I have been told in the past...maybe I have been led down the wrong path ;)
