P90X--How should I estimate this?

I am on day 2 of P90X and this is day 2 of feeling like I am going to puke from the workouts!!

I don't have a heart rate monitor, so in order to enter it into MFP I have to kind of estimate. I just did the Arms + Shoulders disc. If I enter it in as 60 minutes of weight lifting, it tells me that it burned 174 calories. On the other hand, if I enter it in as 60 minutes of Circuit Training, it tells me I burned 471 calories. Which do you think is more accurate? (Or how else should I enter it?)

I personally use my heart rate monitor and enter each exercise so I know what my burn is.

I use a monitor too, but knowing how many calories I burn doing those same exercises, I would say 174 is more accurate than 400+. It varies person to person, but if you had to guess, I would under guess.

    Good luck!

If you wanted to get the most accurate reading without a heart rate monitor you could go in and find each exercise. If I'm correct is that the dvd where you just do push ups and pull ups the entire time? I really don't think circuit training is accurate cause it's barely any cardio but I also don't think 174 calories sounds right either. I dunno....I hope someone else can offer some better advice cause I'm curious too!

i know someone who does have a heart rate monitor who does it, they are already verry fit/thing/ shortish. they burn around 300 for 40 mins. donno if that helps, but if you want an accurate count you have to get a hrm

Definitely invest in an HRM, it's a must for P90X and getting a more accurate calorie burn, ime.

For the strength workouts, i tend to burn 300-350 calories (higher end when I do jumping jacks durin gthe the rest/stretch portion).

Definitely put a good HRM (one that reads from a chest strap) on your near future shopping list, but i typically burn 400-500 cals for this workout, but it's different for everyone, that's why you really need an HRM, that's the most accurate way to tell, otherwise you'll always be guessing, and it's better to underestimate if you're trying to loose weight, but you don't wanna consistently be way under your daily calorie goal, especially doing P90X, since the workouts demand a lot of energy, and you'll probably run out of gas in a few weeks if you're consistently under-eating.
