I've found that by actually logging ALL the drinks AND what you eat whilst drinking on here, it can be a bit of an eye opener as to how many calories you really did consume - sometimes you may want to just miss logging the weekend since you know you splurged (ignorance is bliss right?) - it can actually help deter you in future from going overboard.

Ignorance is bliss, until you creep onto those scales and ignorance smacks you one right on the kissa ;)

Ha, i know what your saying though.

Just a quick update on this because i'm sure you are all fascinated by what happens to me at a weekend ;)

I took it easier last weekend but did have a few voddys and a slice of pizza on the Friday. When I weighed myself on the Sunday i nearly fainted when i had put on 5lbs!!! Wtf?! However...

Just before i gave up on the whole thing i did a bit of research into weight fluctuation.

This is what happens to me.!! Which explains the whole 'weekends are killing me'. Its just water retension!

Weighed myself after footy on Monday and i was back down 5lbs again.

Long story short, i am now only going to weigh myself once a week from now on

Hope your all succeeding in your efforts!

Really look at drink options. Not all beers are the same, not all mixed drinks are the same. Save the calories and guzzle a *kitten* load of water before. I find if my stomach is almost painfully full it's easier to booze it up slower. I also try to avoid any handfuls of food. You know the typical party food. A couple handfuls of nuts or crackers or whatever can kill you. Worse case I am good all week and I figure it took me a long time to lose weight I won't put it all back on at once. So if I go over once a month or so then so be it.

A friend said to me he likes to save the bad calories for booze. Which although not a perfect mantra... Has some merits.

I think it's all a balance. If you have a good healthy mix most of the time... Then a few weekend drinks should be fine.

If you are hitting the take away on the way home too... That's when the calories really start stacking up.

Hello guys, I've been using this app on and off for a couple of years now, but this time im really focused. However, it seems like this time the alcohol etc on a weekend are having much more if an effect on my efforts and literally taking me back to square one each week. Anyone else experiencing this? Im 30 m by the way. Mat

Just ask your self what do you want more? Alcohol, or Results? Maybe just suck it up for a few months and get your results...then drink in moderation.

Pre log a couple of drinks each day that you are concerned about. That way you will have the calories "left" for it. Then stick to your plan. I can fit a lite beer or a glass of wine into my calorie budget of less than 1500 total cals per day on most days. I may have to leave another treat out, though, like having a drink instead of dessert. Margaritas with chips and salsa are the hardest for me, mostly because of the mountains of chips and salsa I can eat. ( Sigh. . . . Thinking wistfully of chips, salsa, and margaritas. . . )

Seriously, though, I don't struggle so much with the drinks. It is the sweets and snacks for me. In our neighborhood, there is a liquor store right next to the best donut shop in town. I can tell you right now that it is safer for me to go in the liquor store. . . .

I partied heavily in high school and got over it before I started college, so I've been a teetotaler since about 18. So, I've never had this problem, but I've got lots of friends who have. There was an interesting piece on NPR last month about taking positive steps away from college drinking towards moderation, and there are some programs designed with that in mind. (As opposed to an abstinence program). While it doesn't sound like you have a "drinking problem" per se, perhaps some of the techniques would be helpful to you so that you can still drink with friends on the weekends, and meet your weight goals.

I also have weekends that consist of at least one quite boozy night, but it's my thing and I make it fit into my calories. If I go over, then I clean up the diet the next day and move on. I'm still consistently losing weight and have yet to hit a plateau.

Something has to give somewhere, so I try to prepare ahead of time for the weekend by banking some calories a day or two ahead. I hover between 1200 - 1500 daily calories, so on Fridays I'll likely have a very light eating day of less than 500 calories, I'll then have my 1000 calories of alcoholic drinks that night, then start the next day with a headache and a few hard boiled eggs, and resume my normal eating.

    Healthy? Meh. Effective? Yes.

That's alot of individuals issues. Many people like to cram in the gym during week and drink the weekend away and we all know that with drinks comes food. Not too many are mindful of what they eat neither I mean who wants to eat something healthy when you're pounding them back. Alcoholic calories do add up very quickly per serving because alot of us don't drink an oz. Or whatever the per serving is in one sitting. For one that is a custom to having a few drinks a night I would say switch the hard liquor to light in example instead of rum and coke maybe a light beer to start . If you try to go cold turkey you probably will binge. Top athletes still have their nacks for toxins but I'm sure it's in moderation. Everyday we wake up is a celebration .. we should celebrate health and longevity .. not to the point that we can't roll out of bed and to drink gatorade/pop advils. Once you get a threshold on the alcohol you Will feel alot better especially when you're in shape it will probably stray you away from it slowly to see and feel how it hinders your performance. Good luck my brother !

I know what you mean. I'm 31 and I have no kids, most of friends are still child free and our weekends tend to involve plenty of boozing. Not to say that we don't do plenty of non drinking activities too - but at this age every weekend is a wedding, hen do, 30th birthday, long weekend away, uni reunion etc, especially in the summer with BBQs added to the mix every time the sun comes out! But I just try to drink healthier drinks , G&T is my drink of choice anyway so it is pretty easy. I also try and get as active as I possibly can during the day with running, walking or bike riding, and when I go out I dance dance dance! Also avoid the post night out junk food. It is totally possible to loose weight while having a fun lifestyle like this. Giving up social events will make you miserable. xxx
