Will my HRM for my Garmin 305 work for me?

I don't know if anyone has one of these, but back when I was running daily, my Garmin 305 gps with heart rate monitor was AWESOME for tracking distance, elevation, etc. when I was running and bicycling. I am curious to know if anyone has tried to use this to track calories burned in 'stationary' workouts, like workout DVDs, etc. I am curious if it will give me an accurate calories burned if it isn't taking into account speed, etc.
Has anyone got any experience with this? Or will I be experimenting blind?

Here's what I found when I looked up the Garmin Forerunner 305 on the Garmin website:

"Train indoors and still track your distance, pace and calories burned with the optional Foot Pod accessory. This wireless sensor attaches to your running shoe and transmits distance and pace data to your Forerunner 305 so you can still use it when GPS reception is unavailable."

So it looks like you'd need the foot pod accessory, but that would result in accurate readings!

I have one. I have not tried using it with 'stationary' workouts because a friend told me it doesn't work well.

Thanks ... I have the foot pod and it is really good for tracking stride in a treadmill workout, but won't help me with 30DS. Or a Zumba video, which is the type of thing I am wanting to track. Guess I will have to buy a newer Polar F7 or something for those type of workouts ... Was hoping I would be able to get by without spending the money.

Yeah, so I wore my heart rate monitor during my 30 Day Shred workout yesterday, just to see. LOL ... Definitely not a good option. My heart rate was tracked beautifully! (Resting Heart rate is around 54 and max heart rate during the workout was around 185.) But my calories burned was exactly 0. Yes, ZERO on the reading when I was done. Unless the GPS is tracking movement (or the foot pod, which I was not wearing, is engaged) it doesn't calculate calories. So much for that idea. Guess I will be shopping for a new HRM, because I am pretty sure I burned more than 200 calories during 30DS this morning and that is what the MFP calculator gives me for circuit training.

Oh well. Now to find the best recommendations for an HRM... LOL
