Too Few Calories

I am new to my fitness pal.com, two weeks in; and really like the user friendly format and believe it is going to work for me. I have one question and am open to suggesions. I am getting the message that I am eating too few calories. Does the website offer a list of food items that can be sorted by calorie, carb, protein, and fat? I'm finding it difficult to add foods without going over my daily goal, and it would be great if I could choose foods that would help me meet my calorie intake and not go over my other daily goals of consumption. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't see your diary so hard to help. If you are getting the message it is because you are going under 1200 calories (Women) or 1500 calories (Men) and that is not recommended. Your body needs fuel to burn fat and build muscle.
As far a s foods, stay as far from processed foods as possible, increase protein and fiber and make sure you are drinking the right amount of water (usually 64oz)
Need more insight to your eating habits to give a more detailed response!
Good luck and open your diary if you still want more advice!0 -
I agree that it would be easier to answer if we knew what you were eating already. However, a good rule of thumb that a doctor gave me was to think about your plate filled with food--2/3 of that plate should be vegetables and fruits including salads and cooked veggies. Fresh and frozen are far better for you than canned. If you buy fruit that is out of season, get frozen without any sugar, or the half cup prepackaged fruits that aren't sweetened in any way. The other 1/3 of your plate should have some lean protein (grilled fish or chicken, tofu, egg whites, etc.) and your good carbs. I was told to try to avoid "white" foods like potatoes (although I occasionally buy baby red potatoes and stem them whole and eat 2 or 3), white rice, white sugar, etc. I prefer to eat a 1/2 cup of brown rice (I season with a bit of Mrs. Dash) or about 1/3 of a sweet potato with a sprinkling of cinnamon for my carb at dinner. Or...I sometimes take the easy way out and eat an Arnold's multi-grain sandwich thin with a smear of laughing cow on it. YUM! What might happen is that you find yourself eating the same foods and meals over and over again if you have a low calorie target simply because it takes the guesswork out.0
