OK, I'm 50. OK, I have excuses like a high stress job. OK, OK. But are you KIDDING me?!?!?!? Hormones and being nearly geriatric play THAT much of role in how slowly I lose weight? She's been on here 3 months. I've been on nearly 2. At this rate, I should be able to claim "33 lbs lost" by the time I enter a freakin' nursing home! I've been eating right 90+% of the time and THIS is the thanks I get from my body?!?!?!

I totally understand your frustration. I have learned to accept my "real" maintenance and losing is really really tough now that we are older. I maintain on 1450-- with activity. So I have lost only 7 pounds in my 260 or so days on here. It sucks I know.

Unless she and you following the exact same calorie deficit, the exact same diet, and the exact same exercise program, you can't really compare yourself to her. Just keep at it, and if you want to lose faster, don't be afraid to ask for advice on the forums.

'Eating right' is a very ambiguous statement. Do you mean you are eating your MFP calories? Or 'eating clean' or something else?

If you'd like some help, post your stats and open your diary. Age is covered in the OP, but height, weight, current MFP calorie allowance and goal loss settings (1 lb, 2 lbs per week?) Activity level? Eating back exercise calories and what percent?

Are you using a food scale?

    Cheat meals / days??

Still my statement rings true.. the older we all get the harder it is to lose/maintain

So you've lost 6 lbs in just under 2 months. That's quite good actually, especially considering your ticker says you have about 30lbs to lose. Unless your friend is an exact clone of you and has been doing and eating exactly the same as you, why are you comparing yourself to her? Have patience.

    Great loss, so far, Emily!

If you're sticking to the calories, how are you measuring? Do you weigh and portion with a food scale? If you're over or under-estimating that will effect your loss without question

you have done really well. I'm 26 and my weight loss is slow too - I hoped that being young would help but it doesn't always seem to :( perhaps she has a lot more to lose than you do? Good luck I'm lacking in motivation right now but it will all fall into place x

Ha. That's what I thought, but here I am at the (not-so-geriatric) age of 64, losing at the same rate I lost in my late 30s, almost 27 pounds in 100 days. So I'm not really convinced age is as big a factor as conventional wisdom says it is.

That's REALLY interesting, Tina. Thank you for sharing this ray of hope!

I'm 40 and have lost 20 pounds in 6 months. I see other people posting higher losses in the same amount of time too and it doesn't feel like it is going to impress anyone. I am making good progress and want to do what is right for me even if it takes me a year or 2 to get to my goal. My body is thanking me for my efforts by becomming stronger, more flexible and healthier every day.
Be patient and don't compare to others so much. Don't be negative about your progress.
Have you taken measurements and progress photos as well? Sometimes non-scale measures of progress are important too.
