HI all

Just rejoined yesterday and have found out today that I am pregnant. I really want to do this but am now worried about what exercises I can do while pregnant. Any advice?

Cheers

The general advice is you can continue doing whatever you were conditioned to before however, it is something that each individual should discuss with their doctor.
Not all doctors agree on what is and isn't safe.

If you have never exercised before, this is not the time to add intense exercise. Start simple: walk (unless the dr has you on bedrest etc of course). Prenatal yoga and swimming classes for pregnant women are also a good idea and obviously safe during pregnancy.

    Walking and swimming is great.

Pretty much all I did, with swimming being what I did (3x a week) majority of the time (since it was winter and my gym has a heated indoor pool). I gained a little under 25 lbs and had my baby in January.

Walking and swimming are great options until you can meet with your OB at about eight weeks if you want to be cautious. If you've been working out consistently for some months already, you can keep doing what you've been doing!

Thanks everyone. I only started again yesterday with a bit of a run, but I may just stick to walking and swimming for the time being.

I got surprised with a pregnancy nearly three years ago not long after I had started with a personal trainer. Had to stop sessions with him because he didn't feel qualified to direct a pregnant woman's exercise.

I agree walking and swimming is the way to go. My sister in law did prenatal yoga and loved it. I LOVED swimming, especially later in the pregnancy. I wound up pulling the tendons(ligaments?) That support the uterus. Holy **** that hurt! Like having near constant strain on a pulled muscle. Swimming took the pressure off and felt great. Also I was due in mid-August during one of the hottest summers on record so kinda I wanted to live in the pool.
