I just went and searched on tomato. Every entry I see is for member submitted. Is there a way to search only for any official values? I searched tomato usda and every entry had the * in front of it.
thanks

On the internet - USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference Release 27 (Please do not add this to the Database if you see this AND after you confirm what is on it. Also, look for the RAW item before you weigh on your scale.)0

Try:
Tomato, raw, USDA0 -

thank you - I was hoping to find these generic things in the MFP database so I don't have to add them

You are welcome0 -
Search for "tomatoes - raw." I just use the "Tomatoes - Red, ripe, raw, year round average" since I eat them nearly every day - it averages out.

Tomato red ripe raw
or
Tomato red ripe raw year round average
or
Tomato red ripe raw november may
These /should/ all pull up non-asterisk entries. Hot tip: if it says "USDA" that pretty much guarantees it was member-submitted, though those tend to have been submitted by pretty diligent members and are more often right.
Oh, and all of this is with the caveat that I've seen evidence in the past that the MFP people put some users into weird cohort groups for site testing purposes (because they don't have a test environment so this seems like a good idea to them ::EPIC EYEROLL::) and sometimes those people see different names for things in the database. I know it seems crazy, but I have seen this happen.0 -
yup, sometimes you need to go check the USDA site to find out the proper description.
it is on MFP as,
Tomato,red,ripe,raw year round seasonal average0 -
