What can I do for lunch?! Please read

I am in a field where I not only drive frequently but also entertain clients and employees for lunch. Not to mention it is starting to warm up here in Texas so leaving certain food in the car is pointless. I need some help on what I can do when I'm on the go!

My husband is a lineman and has to work out of his truck most of the time. I pack him wraps, salads and heroes during the summer with an ice pack. If you need to take clients out to lunch, most places now days offer healthy options and it never hurts to ask when you order.

I am in Florida. If I pack food already cold in tupperware with two ice blocks in an insulated bag, it will stay cool for five hours in the trunk of my car.

    ^^ Is your friend.
  • I have two friends here in california, an ice chest in the back of my truck that i stock with celery and carrots and cut fruit from the grocery store in the morning. Or I go to seven eleven or other convenience stores and eat their simple foods. Hard boiled eggs, mango, watermelons, etc. lunches I try go with salads or simple carb and proteins. I think street tacos? I also am a huge fan of nuts, trail mix, and different seeds. I just started counting calories, and so far, i can have a cheat meal if i cut down to two small meals, and constantly munching on celery or carrots. Basically, as soon as I get the courage to start working out again (recovering lower back injury), i hope to start focusing on muscle mass growth by adding more protein to my diet as post work out snack. My experiences, your call, we all have different bio-chemical soup for blood.

How about sushi with clients? It is classy and nutritious if you get sashimi or simple veggie or fish rolls.

Oh I feel your pain. My husband is also O&G and is either in the field or has client lunches. I also know what kind of food is generally available in the oil field and it ain't healthy! (And usually tastes really damn good!) That said, you need to invest in a really good cooler and freezable packs! Pack salads, sandwiches, fruits and veggies. (I tote a bag of snacks around all day usually boiled eggs, cheese, veggies, low sodium V8s, sometimes hummus and pretzels.) My husband usually takes protein/meal replacement bars out with him...so he doesn't get lured in by the food on location.
When he goes out to lunch he now is more conscious of his meal choices. He tries to stick with salads, grilled fish, chicken and dishes with lots of veggies. He avoids anything fried and fatty meats. He really was not receptive to the healthier eating at first, but now regularly comments "I had lunch with Bob today and he ordered the salmon salad...no wonder he's so slim." Or comments on stuff like when they go out to a super fancy restaurant and his business clients order a freaking cheeseburger.

Also, if you know where you're going out to eat, see if the restaurant has the nutritional info listed. That way you can make a more informed choice before you arrive. Skip the carbs and ask for double veggies (keeping in mind that potatoes, fried okra and corn are NOT veggies, but are widely accepted as veggies in Texas.) When you eat mexican/tex mex: Swap flour tortillas for corn, grilled meat tacos instead of enchiladas, whole pintos instead of refried. Pass on the sour cream and cheese, ask for extra pico.

    Hope this helps!
