If you have the time, look in to making your own jerky. It's actually quite fun experimenting with flavours and different meats.

Peanuts, Cashews and Almonds. Almonds especially but watch out for the calories.
Peanut Butter also (no added sugar).
Dark Chocolate, a few squares of something 85%+.
    Boiled Eggs! Yum!
Slices of ham/chicken or other cold meats (perhaps a pepperami, or the cheese & salami snacks).
    Cheese or cream cheese.
There are a huge number of things, but just be careful of the calorie content for your overall day .

    String cheese / cheese cubes
    Nuts
    Hard boiled eggs
    Yogurt
    Strawberries are fairly low
    Protein shake?
Homemade protein fudge...yum! (whey protein + fats) or any other type of protein treat

^^Also this. For the past year I've consistently eaten a morning and afternoon snack, and just recently I started increasing my meal size, and I prefer it. At first I was using multiple snacks as a mind game to make me think I'm "eating more because I'm eating more often" but that mind game wore off...now I'm onto the mind game of eating "larger" meals. It just depends whether you like to eat more often or larger portions.

There are three macros; protein, carbs, and fats. If you want lower carbs, you are asking for higher protein, fat snacks. All the examples above work. BTW, sugars are a type of carb. Fruits and vegetables also are carbs with more fiber and water.

Edamame seed pods haven't been mentioned yet.

some people, including myself, prefer to have snacks. Water is a ridiculous suggestion.

Personally - boiled eggs or jerky if my calories allow.

If not, I tend to drink a pint of water or two with some squash concentrate.

Why is water a ridiculous suggestion? A lot of times dehydration can be confused for hunger.

To me a snack implies it is to eliminate hunger - therefore water seems a completely logical suggestion.

    ... water?... squash concentrate?... :astonished:

Eggs, cheese, beef jerky, deli meat, leftover chicken/pork/steak, yogurt, seeds and nuts, cottage cheese with seasonings or salsa, a quick tuna salad... all of these have negligible to no carbs, won't break the calorie bank as long as you portion them appropriately, and can be very satiating.

Some people think they need to eat every 2-3 hours, or continually graze, or that we can't go an hour feeling hungry. Sometimes they haven't considered another option.... I initially freaked out about removing "snacks" because I thought I'd get hungry. I actually feel a whole lot better for it.
