I would just eat it on my free day and not count the calories. If you did you would never want to eat there again.0

I've sworn off all-you-can eat buffets. It's just too tempting for me and I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth if I don't gorge myself. Add in all the MSG and salt and you can gain tons of weigh in a very short time. It's so bad that I feel like salt is oozing from my pores after I eat Chinese.
Japanese, on the other hand, can be light and fresh by comparison. The portions are usually smaller and you eat slower (if you go to a table-side prep place).0 -
I rarely eat at buffets...but when I do, I know I get full fast....so I just eat whatever I want and eat till I am satisfied and I don't count those days....and I only do that because I know its rare.0

At any buffet, I survey it from backwards to forwards (even at celebrations where they have a buffet). Then I plan what to eat.
THEN, I pile on my plate or plates the first time, and rarely, if ever, have to go back for seconds. Even dessert isn't as appealing when I've eaten all I cared to eat.
I must admit to being something of a carnivore, so I tend to stock up on the meat stuff before anything else. :blushing:0 -
I'm glad someone actually posted something like this I had a question for anyone looking in.
There is no way I could stay away from a china Buffet its like my favorite place ta eat, I'll be going on my birthday in a couple of weeks. I was wondering for such a occasion would it hurt to save me appetite the whole day and splurge just for that one meal that day then go back to my strict diet the next? Or is that gonna hurt the process?
Help? Please0 -
Please remember I am not a doctor or claiming to be. I think what I would do in your situation is save most of my calories for that meal but make sure I eat something else at least 2 other times that day even if it something really low cal at least your body won't feel like it is starving also make sure you drink your water that day and remember you can always eat veggies all day. Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY0

Hi There,
Thank you for the info. from the Nutrition Action Letter. It was very helpful.
My husband likes to go to the Chinese buffet once in a while and I believe that place is one of the reasons we became overweight to begin with.
He gets at least 3 plates of food and I can't watch it. There are always individuals at these establishments that are a plate away from a heart attack.
My husband had one and luckily survived it a few years back. He was only 30-40 pounds overweight. I see people 100-200 pounds overweight at the Chinese buffet.
It is one of the downfalls in America that we eat this way. I absolutely can't stand buffets.
I am sorry to be so strong on this, but we all need a wake up call.
I actually saw an individual hauled out in an ambulance from the buffet.
I will never ever eat at one again. They make me cringe.
Spend your dollar on a place that promotes healthy eating, then maybe the resturaunts of America will get the hint.
Off the soapbox now.

I'm with Connie. My wife and I went to a steak-house buffet once several years ago. I was about 60 lbs overweight and she was about 100 lbs over. We looked around and we were the smallest people in the place! The worst part was that the food wasn't very good and I had a difficult time finding anything I liked.
Over the holidays we went with family to buffets a couple of times. Both times, I was able to limit myself to one plate of reasonable size. If I had been buying, we would have gone somewhere else.0 -
I don't care much for the quality of the food. But when I get stuck going, ours has a Mongolian grill. you pick out what items you want and put them on a plate and hand them to the chef, he cooks it with your requested sauce etc. the language barrier is sometimes an effort, to tell them no oil. or no sauce or light on something. but at least I get to pick my own food, and its not battered. I stick to the wonton broth, no wontons, or just the eggdrop soup, thinned with a little wonton broth. ours offers cold shrimp, and sushi, as well as a cold salad buffet. I start with a small salad, eat a few cold shrimp and have my soup, then get the grilled to order items. sometimes I end with fresh watermelon or cantalope. its a bit more than my normal lunch or dinner. but if you remember YOU are in control at all times, its doable. ours also offers crab legs too, but I like butter too much to have those. :grumble:
see
salad,
clear soup,
boiled seafood,
controlled mongolian grill
fruit.
you can do this.!!!0
