Hello I just need some help staying motivated. I usually start my diet very motivated. I lose a few pounds and then all of a sudden I am off my diet. What is wrong with me? I used to be able to diet very well when I was younger. Now I don't know what is the matter with me. I joined this group in hopes of gaining some insights as to what I am doing wrong. I am tired of being discouraged. I pray that I have a good outcome this time. I am putting God first. I know God is going to continue to bless me during my time of need.

For me I stay motivated by seeing the little accomplishments. Eating healthy all day. Getting my workout in. Being able to do more in a workout, like 15 pushups to 50. Or more weight on squats.
I have lost almost 40 pounds. What got me going in the first place was not wanting to see 260 pounds on the scale. So I did something crazy. I signed up for a 1/2 marathon. It got me off my butt and watching everything I ate.
You have to see the possibilities.

You arent being consistent. If god is blessing you, then why arent you sticking to your diet? I'm all for you using your faith to motivate you, but you still need to take action and help yourself.

If the problem is you cna only manage a few days or a few lbs, then you have to look at why.
You need to undestand what you are doing about weight loss.
You need to have a plan thats easy to follow and you can sustain.
You need to examine the reasons why you cant stick to something and you go off track. its either going to be because the plan is not suited to you i.e its too aggressive or impractical or its your mental approach.

Besides knowing how to diet (read this link it contains basic information on dieting )http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

Then I would approach it by taking it one day at a time and make small changes as Martika suggests. That way you can adjust to change gradually and it doesnt overwhelm you. Small changes you can make: learn to log and use the MFP app, learn to weigh, look at your log and see what you eat, read the link above, go for a 5 minute walk. Treat it one day and then one week at a time. When you are ready then start reducing the amount you eat over a few weeks, first aiming to get to maintenance and stop eating at excess, to then introducing a small but gradual deficit so you will lose.

Focus on following your plan just for the day and build on it. If you keep it up then you will lose weight. make sure you cna sustain it by keeping it simple and not being too ambitious. Be patient and it will build up so losing 1lb then becomes 2 etc. Ecen now I really just focus on the next 1lb. If you go off track then log it and make better decisions the next day.

Losing weight is straightforward, so identify why you are going off track and then take approriate measures. If you dont, then it will happen again. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I actually have been getting some walking in. I think maybe I do expect to much in the beginning. I have to learn to be patient. I did not gain all of this weight over night and I am not going to lose it over night. I have decided that I am going to take one day at a time.
