I just got a job at a gym and they are offering personal training (ncsf cert.) For $100 . Does anyone know if its a good idea? If anything for myself to learn more and maybe eventually help others. Or would you even recommend being a personal trainer to brgin with?

I'm not a PT, but I've worked with and am friends with quite a few from my gym. For $100 I'd probably do it, just to say I'm certified, have fun and learn some stuff lol. But if you are planning on making some actual money or a career out of this there are some things to consider.
Look into the program and make sure it is reputable and will be accepted at most gyms in your area. Being a PT can be crazy with hours, keeping/getting clients, making your gym happy, etc. You also will have to work with TONS of types of people. Not all of them will be nice, dedicated, etc. I've heard some crazy stories. Your location can be a huge factor. All the PT's I know are basically part time moms because we live in a rural area and it's not highly demanded. They teach fitness classes and work at the gym for more hours as well. But....it's also clear that some of them are perfectly happy with their jobs and love working with clients.0 -
$100 will get you a piece of paper maybe but nothing more.
A guy I work with has a bachelors and masters in all kinds of biology, anatomy and science subjects and can't land a good job as a trainer. Being a personal trainer was his goal from the beginning.0 -
Wow thank you for the advice. I had no idea0

I had a friend that became a PT right out of high school. I've never heard of it being that difficult...?0 -
$100? Lol, I paid over $400 for my initial cert the first time around. How are you tested? Independently? If not, then the cert may not mean much.
But a cert really is just a piece of paper (or card) signifying you passed that organization's test. The real deal happens if you intend to use it and whether or not the information and training you provide is limited to your actual knowledge.
I hear ALL THE TIME, from people they could be a trainer. Then you give them a scenario and they end up writing their own personal program as the training program for that person. Because that's all they really know.

Its actually $350 but 24hr fitness is paying $250 of it up front. So all ill owe is $100 its the NCSF cert. It's a 2 day class, and if anything it would be good just to have. I used to be fit and workedout a lot but since my knee injuries i went up to 400lbs . I finally got ny knees healthier so i already dropped 100lbs since then i get people asking me for advice (around town) and since i work at a gym a lot of people saw ny progress. Figure i could use it towards my advantage. Thank you ninerbuff and go 9ers!!! Im not even mad that Crabtree left us lol0
