Another lateral puzzle

Because his wife is inside the hotel with her lover and he is sneaking up on her to catch her in the act. The man drives a old hooptie with an exhaust that backfires occasionally and she would know in an instant it was him that pulling up to the hotel. The man is carrying a gun and plans to use it in his fit of madness. He still needs the car there for a quick getaway but can't risk the backfire setting off an alarm to his floosie of a wife. The tension builds and he pushes the car closer and sees her car already parked in the lot... He walks up to the door and debates knocking to see who answers or just kicking it in, gun blazing... He walks slowly to the door.... :::knock knock::: The door opens............
