I've been dieting and exercising for about 5 weeks and lost roughly 10 pounds, but now I'm at a standstill.. I need to lose 18 more pounds to get to goal weight, any suggestions?

I'm going on 9 weeks now and I've gained and lost in between sticking to my diet and exercise. From my 9 week experience and reading articles/watching youtube vids, if we're doing this correctly, standstills do happen. How long have you had the standstill? I've gone two weeks without loosing anything (actually gaining) and then the following week the weight started falling off again.
Working out 5 weeks I would say is still early in the game and you have already lost 10 lbs, which I would say is damn good.
What is your workout routine? Lift weights and cardio? How many times per week?0 -
Any time when I stall in my weight loss, it's because I got sloppy with my weighing and logging and began to allow a taste of this or a bit of that and not log it. When I tighten back up, I begin to lose again.0

It's only been a few days at this standstill, but actually gained a pound since posting . I get frustrated and turn to food. My fiance works nights so we eat dinner rather early 3:30 pm, so by 7 I feel as if I'm starving so I snack. I've been doing more cardio than strength. I have really bad needs and have a difficult time finding exercises that doesn't hurt them. I'm trying to lose weight for my upcoming wedding in November, my target goal is 140; I now weight 157. Sorry for the book0

Nice work on the 10 lbs in 5 weeks. That's nothing to brush off.
Weight loss isn't linear though so there will be variations, times when the weight comes off quick and other times when it doesn't. Stay consistent with logging and give it a little more time.
The evening snacking will only be a problem if it puts you over your calorie goal. Are you logging it? Can you plan your day to include the snacking, so it doesn't put you over?0 -
As you lose lbs I think you need to reassess your MFP net calories because your body needs fewer calories as you get smaller. I suggest dropping your current net calorie count by 100 per day either by food intake or exercise or both. Try adding a walk at lunch and I think you'll see progress again. Keep at it and your body will respond!0

You are not going to lose weight every day. You will lose some, stay the same some, and gain some. That's normal fluctuation. You either need to weigh less often or, if you want to weigh daily, accept that as normal.
Additionally, the closer you are to your goal (and 18 pounds is close, relatively speaking) the smaller your deficit should be. This allows you to maintain an optimal amount of muscle while losing fat. If you have lost 10 pounds in 5 weeks, you likely have experienced the initial water weight loss that is normal but I am concerned that your MFP settings are set for you to lose too much weight. I know that you have set November as a deadline but, practically speaking, focusing on a slower rate of loss is going to serve you better in the long run. And I promise that nobody at the wedding will care if you don't meet that goal.0 -

I had another thought about stalls. When you first start out you can lose quite a bit of water weight. It can sometimes mask inaccuracies in your logging. When you finally get down to real fat loss, it can matter a lot if your calorie goal is right and if your logging is accurate.
Also, if you have a goal of a half pound loss per week, as recommended by another poster, that's only a deficit of 250 calories a day. Estimation errors can easily eat that up. It becomes important to weigh your food and be sure you select the right entries from the database.0 -
