My name is buck I have been down this road numerous times over the years. I have a long history of eating compulsively. My health is important in that i want to be there for my family as I get older.
I am a life member of weight watchers, I once was an avid runner completing numerous races and running over 1600 klms in 2006. Although I am still active I am significantly heavier than I was 9 years ago.
Any tips on avoiding those compulsive eating moments would be appreciated.

Hello. I'm not really an expert here, in fact I am quite new to IIFYM and dieting at all but I have a reply because I too have crazy compulsive eating moments where I could (and do) eat a fridge full of food and not be satisfied! I think the thing to fix here is what the underlying issue is. If you are eating good healthy meals throughout the day and meeting your calorie goals then you shouldn't feel the need to pig out, its probably more likely that you are bored or feeling down so you want some chocolate or maybe your body is actually wanting some nutrient like magnesium and the way it is telling you is to eat the entire dairy milk factory. So I guess my suggestions are if you get like this - rethink your food goals - are you allowing yourself a reasonable amount of calories/macros to get a steady weight loss which still allows you to eat enough
- take your mind of it - read a book, do some exercise, watch a movie - anything to distract you until the cravings go away
- check your nutrient intake - do you need supplements to get the RDA of important vitamins and iron?
- are you getting enough sleep? tired and hungry often feel the same!
- does your diet allow you little treats here and there- I could not make a diet a lifestyle if it meant no chocolate ever, but I've tried switching to dark chocolate and allowing just a couple of pieces a week rather than a full bar a day
Home something here helps and good luck!0 -
I try to stay full by drinking water and eating small healthy snacks throughout the day. I eat something every couple hours, that way I am not hungry and the compulsion to eat is subsided. I also do not deny myself things that I enjoy, I just eat them in moderation. Just don't give up, I have been down the road several times and have learned from each adventure, this time I think I have it right!0

Hi Buck.
I am a compulsive eater, but have lost 50lb since Autumn by using this site, logging everything I eat, thinking in advance what I plan to eat, and not going too long without food. I have 5 small meals a day as I am up early and go to bed late. This has worked for me and I am now exercising as well. Just try to take it one day at a time and if you have a bad day, just log it honestly and carry on. This worked for me. I will be doing this for the rest of my life, and that's fine with me Good luck Friend me if you like.0 -
