Period massively threw me off plan

I ate the same amount and worked out my usual 1-2 hours a day and still gained 5 lbs. I'm seriously upset and want to give up. I dont know what to think! My period just ended today and I am still up five lbs? Should I work out an extra hour today and cut calories? I could probably lose it all today .. But that would suck. Haha does this happen to anyone else? Usually I gain 1-2 lbs max this time of month..

don't change anything, give it a few days and then reevaluate. It's waterweight if you ate the same as normal.0

I do not weigh myself the week of my cycle, and wait at least 4 days after its ended to weigh myself

Relax and take a breath. It's only water retention. It can take a while for it to leave your body. It's only water. I gain about that much during my special lady time and then it leaves up to a week later.0

Your period is trolling you. I get around 5 pounds thrown at me every month but it's not true weight gain, so don't worry about it.0

Just keep pushing through. Get the mentality that even though the scale is up during that time of the month, doesn't mean you have any control over it. Just mother nature taking its course. Stick with it because you'll be dealing with this every month! We all do0

Thanks guys! I was super confused because yesterday I had lost an inch off my waist but my weight was still up! It makes no sense at all. I know i don't look any bigger but I certainly feel bigger0

I done it once and was so pi55ed off with the outcome, i vowed never again.
Give it a few days OP and weigh yourself again - in the morning before eating or drinking anything (preferably).

You couldn't have gained five pounds of fat unless you ate 3,500 calories x 5 (17,500) over your TDEE, which I'll bet you didn't, so I'd just do everything normally and carry on.
Why do you work out two hours a day? That seems a bit excessive.0 -
Try drinking more water it might help to lose the water weight.0

Are you weighing at the same time everyday? My weight fluctuates by 4 pounds across the course of a day. Weigh yourself in the morning, before you've eaten anything. That is the most accurate.0

Secondly, as others have said, the 5 lb is most likely all water/bloat. Your weight graph will have ups & downs.
Chill. Even if it were healthy for you to lose 20 lb (it's not), with so little to lose it wouldn't be realistic to expect
to lose more than 0.5 lb per week. 1 lb a month would be even better.
Third, your current weight (135) is toward the low end of healthy for your height (5'9"). You don't need to lose any
weight, let alone 20 lb, and certainly it isn't going to happen quickly. Going by BMI, a healthy weight for your height
is 130 - 165 lb. So your stated goal of "looking to get back into the 120s" is unhealthy, will make you underweight.
That goes against your other stated goal of, "I want to have the best possible HEALTHY body for myself".
If you're really a model, I'm sure you're getting lots of bad advice & pressure to be unhealthfully thin. Please don't.
You're not going to be a model forever, but you will have to deal with your body the rest of your life, and if you do
something harmful it could have lifelong repercussions. (Some people deal with eating disorders their whole life.
It would be better all around not to start one in the first place.)
And if you "want to look hot on vacation", consider that being unhealthfully thin is not "hot". It's gross.

The healthy range for 5'9 is 125-170 so it is not "unhealthy"0

I typically lose all the water weight the week after my period is over. So don't worry too much. If you have a day when you have to pee a lot, you'll probably be much lighter in the morning, lol.0

No offense but please take your opinions elsewhere. I don't tell overweight people they are unhealthy and I'm not even underweight. Nor would I be if I lost 5-10 lbs0

Holding onto some water weight is pretty common during period. You don't need to change anything and you certainly don't need to give up.
PS--Any bleeding you may have experienced is perfectly normal too.0 -
I am really glad you posted this. I am in the same boat, suddenly up 1.4 pounds and I have been 100% on plan so felt like giving up. I will give it a few days before I weigh in again.0

True Bunsen but they didn't answer my question. Seems like just a hater :P also my boyfriend LOVES my body type, a lot of guys like smaller girls. No one should hate anyone for their own personal preference. Seems like jealousy to me.

I was mostly mad they had the nerve to call me "gross" when I would say well over half of all guys are mainly attracted to my body type. I'm definitely not sick looking and lots of guys like the way I look. I have a friend who weighs the same as me and is TOO thin but she has no boobs or butt, and is solid muscle so most guys aren't attracted to her, but SOME are and I would never tell my friend she is gross for looking the way she does. People can look different at different weights. I'm curvy even though I'm skinny and I most definitely do not look gross or sick0
