How did it get to this?

I am 5'7" and in my late 40s. When I was in my late 30s, I had about 35 to lose, got to about 135 lbs, started taking dance classes, and was in the best shape of my life. I continued that for several years. About 3 years ago, I got an injury that pretty much ended my dancing. I thought I would take a year off to heal, and get back to it. Here we are 3 years later, still with the injury (its now chronic, but thankfully not serious). I joined a gym in August, but then was sidelined again in October with a knee injury (not gym related). I am now almost back to normal with my knee and 2 weeks ago, I have dedicated myself to going to the gym 3 times a week (HIIT), and I'm slowly getting stronger (and it's a great stress reliever). Yesterday, when I stepped on the scale, I cried. I am the heaviest I have ever been. I now have 45 pounds to lose. So, I decided to come back here (I had been here ages ago, and then forgot about it). I am now incorporating proper, nutritious eating into my routine. I figure that I did it before, I can do it again. I'm posting this, because making it public, for me, makes me more accountable.

Hiya... Read your post and felt like I had written it myself! ;)

I'm keen for a few motivating friends but would appreciate the opportunity of sharing diaries.

I've learned a HEAP about things I'd rather not eat and some super eating ideas through other people's diaries and besides... What's the point of telling somebody 'well done' if they've eaten 3 hash browns and a bottomless cup of diet coke all day?!

Friend me if you need a buddy... I've been back for 15 days and really surprised that I'm still at it!

Hello! You're not alone with this one - I've got a chronic foot injury too! I fell in a Zumba class in 2011 and am still on crutches with orthotic insoles and struggling but not giving up! Have you tried swimming or cycling on a stationary bike? Low-impact exercise is best. Maybe you could ask a personal trainer to put together a couple of low impact routines for you so you can alternate them. Feel free to add me if you want to swap tips as I am constantly looking for stuff to do on my foot! I wish you all the best :)

I'm in the same boat. I waited and waited for a foot injury to heal, but it never did, and I became the most out of shape of my life. I'm learning to exercise around the injury/disability now, but it's not nearly as fun as dancing, hiking, or just going out for a walk.

To everyone above: feel free to add me. Maybe our exercises can inspire one another to continue to work around the pain.
